I know this is probably going to get me a lot of thumbs down because quite a few people on here don't feel Tesla or these options are worth it, but I wanted to let everyone know that Elon Musk has announced that the temporary discounts on autopilot and full self driving are going back to their original prices on Monday.

For those that haven't purchased EAP and FSD already, the current price is $5k and will likely go back up to $7-8k. If you already purchased EAP, then FSD was $4k after purchase and is currently $2k.

None of the FSD features not included in EAP actually exist yet, so it's kind of a gamble at this point. Is it worth paying $2k now in the hopes that you'll get FSD features in the future and not pay $4k? I'm still trying to decide for myself. One thing to keep in mind is if you purchase FSD now, you'll get the Autopilot 3.0 hardware (new faster processor) for free when it comes out and all the features of FSD.

https://www.tesla.com/

EDIT: To clarify, new purchases do not qualify for these discounted prices. You have to currently own a Tesla and not have purchased both EAP and FSD to qualify.

UPDATE: New car discounts (~3%) and AP/FSD discounts are still active until Wednesday at midnight.

They say auto pilot kills people

Tesla driver dies in fatal crash while using autopilot mode
The autopilot sensors on the Model S failed to distinguish a white tractor-trailer crossing the highway against a bright sky Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle crash occurred when a tractor-trailer made a left turn in front of the Tesla at an intersection on a non-controlled access highway. The driver of the Tesla died due to injuries sustained in the crash," the NHTSA said.

The car continued to travel after passing under the truck's trailer, veered off the road, and then crashed through two fences and into a power pole, the local police report said. Brown died at the scene.

The accident comes at a time when Americans have just started to become more comfortable with letting machines take the wheel. Tesla has generated enormous fanfare with its autopilot mode and inspired consumers – despite the company's warnings – to see just how much they can do while letting the car drive.

A popular video posted online appeared to show a man taking a nap as his car navigated busy traffic. One member of a Tesla owner message board recently quipped that he uses his free hands to play air guitar to Billy Idol songs. Another claimed that during a road trip, he noticed Tesla's autopilot camera struggling to pick out lines during bright sunlight in the morning or at dusk.

Ignorance. Autopilot is a driver aid, just like cruise control.

The wreck you quoted happened years ago, was fully investigated, and it was found that the Tesla (and MobilEye's hardware) performed to the specifications of the system at that time (again, this was several years ago - multiple different versions of Autopilot have come and gone since then, and Tesla now designs their own system and no longer uses MobilEye).

I remember the reports stating that the guy that died in that particular accident was watching Harry Potter when the accident ocurred and not paying attention to the road.

People who got cars last year will need HW3 installed. But I am gonna wait for FSD to be approved by patchwork of local, state and federal regulations. $2 I am not so sure.

Maybe they'll first enable reading of road signs and stop at traffic lights. That's a good first step and then make FSD work.

Elon, get my money today if you can deliver me Model Y by next winter. If tomorrow turns out that MY won't be feasible till next summer, have to pull the plug on M3 by weekend.
Or wait and get used MS later this year. Decision decision
I am guessing the Model Y can be ordered immediately with delivery in late summer. Tomorrow will be a big day no matter what. ]

Model Y + This deal = enough to convince SUV lovers to switch. If the per mile cost ($0.05) of Model Y is similar to S and X, then the Model Y is a no brainer.

Musk is playing it right. Essentially raising the barrier to entry for all other players/wanna be players.

Yes the guy was watching a movie, FSD regardless of the name is just an aid to assist in preventing an accident. But being a moron is not preventable, thankfully the truck driver was uninjured.
