I know this is probably going to get me a lot of thumbs down because quite a few people on here don't feel Tesla or these options are worth it, but I wanted to let everyone know that Elon Musk has announced that the temporary discounts on autopilot and full self driving are going back to their original prices on Monday.

For those that haven't purchased EAP and FSD already, the current price is $5k and will likely go back up to $7-8k. If you already purchased EAP, then FSD was $4k after purchase and is currently $2k.

None of the FSD features not included in EAP actually exist yet, so it's kind of a gamble at this point. Is it worth paying $2k now in the hopes that you'll get FSD features in the future and not pay $4k? I'm still trying to decide for myself. One thing to keep in mind is if you purchase FSD now, you'll get the Autopilot 3.0 hardware (new faster processor) for free when it comes out and all the features of FSD.

EDIT: To clarify, new purchases do not qualify for these discounted prices. You have to currently own a Tesla and not have purchased both EAP and FSD to qualify.

UPDATE: New car discounts (~3%) and AP/FSD discounts are still active until Wednesday at midnight.

If you already purchased Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) but not the Full Self Driving (FSD) option, this really does feel like the right time to do it for $2k.

I'm not sure what the new v3 hardware GPUs costs from Tesla's perspective, but they're going to be part of a pretty powerful neural network that's going to be processing things at 2000 fps. That should also improve existing AP/EAP features as well as the addition of future features, such as properly identifying stop signs, traffic signals, and thus being able to engage autopilot on city roads rather than just the highway.

The OP is right to bring this deal to Tesla owners' attention because if you were at all thinking about it, it makes more sense to grab it at $2k before Monday rather than risk having it go back up to $4k or $5k (depending on when you bought the car).

Even if FSD never even means fully autonomous driving, you WILL get more features from FSD moving forward because they are eliminating EAP for all new orders and grandfathering it in. If you want your Model 3 (especially) to have every possible feature, this feels like it's going to be the cheapest it will be to do so for a while.

That sounds like a "game" being released without being complete and needing extra funding. Going by your logic would you need to pay for each DRM release?
You could alternatively think of it as: you didn't buy the option outright, but unlike traditional manufacturers, you don't have to forgo the option permanently after purchase, or go to the dealer to install it. DVD navigation used to cost $750 for an update, for a map after Google and Mapquest made maps beam to your phone.

You need to sign in to your Tesla account, manage the car in question, then scroll down to shop and select the Autopilot option. It should then bring you to a screen where you can click to pay for the upgrade. It will charge to the credit card they have on file.

This is only for owners who bought Tesla in 2018 and before when Tesla still had option called Enhanced Autopilot (called EAP, $5000). FSD used to be $4000 after delivery back then. However, any owners purchased EAP before 03/01/2019 will receive FSD for free. After 03/01/2019, there is a simpler version of EAP called Autopilot, which costs $2000. If you bought Autopilot for $2000, this deal is not applicable for you. It's only for ones who bought EAP.

After looking at the auto pilot results from Boeing 737 worth $100M, I am not sure how reliable this auto pilot software will be for a 50k car. Thanks for posting the deal but no thanks to this feature.
That's a stall avoidance system on a plane with two 10' engines carrying 200 passengers, to prevent a separate kind of disaster.

This is a car driving on a road, and it doesn't fly at 35k feet at 450mph.

They say auto pilot kills people

Tesla driver dies in fatal crash while using autopilot mode
The autopilot sensors on the Model S failed to distinguish a white tractor-trailer crossing the highway against a bright sky Preliminary reports indicate the vehicle crash occurred when a tractor-trailer made a left turn in front of the Tesla at an intersection on a non-controlled access highway. The driver of the Tesla died due to injuries sustained in the crash," the NHTSA said.

The car continued to travel after passing under the truck's trailer, veered off the road, and then crashed through two fences and into a power pole, the local police report said. Brown died at the scene.

The accident comes at a time when Americans have just started to become more comfortable with letting machines take the wheel. Tesla has generated enormous fanfare with its autopilot mode and inspired consumers – despite the company's warnings – to see just how much they can do while letting the car drive.

A popular video posted online appeared to show a man taking a nap as his car navigated busy traffic. One member of a Tesla owner message board recently quipped that he uses his free hands to play air guitar to Billy Idol songs. Another claimed that during a road trip, he noticed Tesla's autopilot camera struggling to pick out lines during bright sunlight in the morning or at dusk.
Auto pilot vs someone with a cell phone.... surround me in autopilot vehicles please. How many people have died using a cell phone while driving... but guess what... people still are allowed to have their cell phone. Statistically they are way better than people, it's the future... whether you like it or not.
