I was at Lowes (Warren MI) and saw many tools on sale.I purchased the XTREME ACCESS pass through 47pc socket set for 50% off ($29.99 from $59.99). There were quite a few other Kobalt tools on sale including other XTREME ACCESS, standard socket, deep impact, extensions, etc. I felt like 10-20% of the auto tools area was on sale at 50% off! I went to another store a few miles away (Madison Heights) and those seemed to be about 25% off. So, YMMV.

I didn't get a picture, so I tried to compile a short list of items I remember. Please note I grabbed the lowest prices in the area based on Brickseek feedback (mostly Warren, Sterling Heights, Madison Heights in MI):

Also at the Warren location I saw a couple 2 stage snow throwers for 50% off. They said "repaired" , so I don't know who fixes or how the warranty works. The units were Husqvarna and Craftsman retailing for $700-$900 and selling for $350-$450

Seems like they are still overpriced even with the 'clearance' discount

These are not "normal" sockets. They are pass through. On Amazon some of the cheapest pass through you can get is from Crescent at $28 for a 20 pc. Of course these would be considered a specialty tool as most people don't have a use for them.

For me, I've been looking for these since borrowing my brother's Gear Wrench set. These end up being a tad shallower than normal sockets. Plus, they have a hex end if you need to get a wrench on. This is needed for a pulley i need to remove. I can't get a normal socket on there as there isn't enough room between radiator and pulley. And, the bolt is recessed so i cannot get a wrench the bolt because of the angle.

So, it's not "pretty ridiculous" unless you find a price much lower than that for pass through sockets.

In case anyone else was thinking to get some of these to use with their Craftsman or GearWrench pass-through socket sets ...

"It is important to note that the Xtreme Access sets are NOT compatible with Gearwrench, Craftsman, or older Kobalt pass-thru ratchets, sockets, adapters, or other such attachments and accessories."
https://toolguyd.com/kobalt-xtrem...cket-sets/

That link has a good review of these.

BTW, I recall that there are two major standards for the pass-through sockets. So for example, I think GearWrench and Craftsman are interchangeable.

I have this set, or one very similar I got a few years ago for I think $19.99, but maybe it was a little more. FANTASTIC set. I don't have to use it too often, but when you need it it's a godsend. Well worth $30.00.

That last time I used it: One of the engine mounts on my Suzuki SX4. There is a long stationary bolt attached to the frame, the mount slips on to that bolt and you lock it down with a nut. No room to get a hand wrench in to crack the nut loose. I was considered fabricating a specialized tool to get the bolt out.. when I remembered I had this kit sitting int the back of my car!.. Put the extension on it and BAM! ten seconds later that bolt is out.

Good story. There are a few applications out there (e.g., strut nut) where you need the through-access like these provide. And you just need one of those situations to justify having a set like these.

I actually also like them just as regular sockets due to the low profile. You end up gripping the nut about half way between where a regular socket drive does vs. a ratcheting wrench. Good.

It was actually $14.99 at my Lowe's a couple days ago... Sold out now though.

At my local Lowe's, the Kobalt 47-Piece Pass-Through Socket Set (Retail $59.99) was selling for $14.99. It was part of the 75% off clearance sale that we are seeing lot of. I didn't buy it because I already have the Craftsman 51 pc. Max Axess tool set (currently sale for $44.99 with spend $60, get $60 CASHBACK option).... Pretty much the same technology.

https://www.sears.com/craftsman-5...SKIP_LEVEL

What is good about these sets is that they are smaller so more portable vs conventional sets where you may not need to carry lot of long sockets... They won't replace your large size conventional mechanic tool set though. My Craftsman max axess set is part of my "household tool set" as I value the small size and portability of it. I put the small case in my household tool set large bag. When I was working on my antenna on my roof, I tried a conventional ratchet and I couldn't get it to work as the bolt was too long and stopping it. I used my Max Axess and it worked perfect. I could have used a regular wrench but that isn't any fun.

With the pass through technology, they say that it has 45% more torque power than the conventional socket wrenches.
