Lowest price I've seen ever on this great miter saw on Amazon.

Thumbs up, great price for this saw if you really need a 12" slider. But keep in mind that bigger is only better if you actually need the large cut capacity that a miter saw like this offers. Smaller saws will be more accurate and take up a lot less space in your shop.

Also, if anyone isn't aware - this saw can be modded relatively easily into the superior and significantly more expensive DWS780 by retrofitting a light kit.

I'm confused why I keep seeing the 12" on sale for $350 and now $300 but the 10" hasn't dropped below $400. I've been patiently waiting to pick up a 10" slider and worried I'll end up paying full price for a Ridgid.

I've been looking to replace my Husband's old & inaccurate miter saw for his birthday. Is Dewalt one of the better brands?

Get this then. Best deal by far on this saw. I bought it a week ago at HD for $349 and that was a sale.. I LOVE it. Makes the job so much easier. Dewalt is all I am using the past couple of years and zero issues.

For miter saws, go with a Dewalt, hitachi, makita or Bosch. Milwaukee is a great tool brand but not as common among miter saws.

I'm in the same boat, best I've seen for the DW717 is $460 - 15% ebay coupon the other day. I've been holding out for $350 like it has been once or twice in the past. I haven't really considered the R4210 which would be about $330 if another 15% ebay coupon comes up but I've only got another month or so before I need it so I might have to compromise.

Absolutely. We use these at work (RV manufacturing) and they get abused to the max, cutting wood and aluminum. Still hold up. You can't go wrong with these saws.

Lot of bad reviews on the low-end Hitachi. Currently 99 on Lowes. Some saying that the plastic guard shatters. Low end Dewalt is $220 sometimes goes for $180

Thanks for all the great responses! Next question: how much bigger is the 12" than the 10"? He only uses a miter saw for home projects. It seems lots of posters are specifically looking for the 10" model. Why?

Yup. I need a 12 inch slider about once or twice a year. Otherwise my 10" non slider is plenty. These 12 inch sliders are huge in comparison, definitely take up a lot of shop space.
