First time posting a deal.
I think this is a good price for a 4GB Kindle without special offers.

Great deal according to price history on CCC. That being said, as someone who has owned both standard and Paperwhite versions of the Kindle, I will always choose the Paperwhite. The backlight feature is worth every penny.

You're all saying it's backlit, but in reality it's FRONTLIT. The monumental difference being that you don't get the same eye strain and fatigue like looking at a phone or computer screen, it's actually shining light down on to the front of the display which is more similar to a reading lamp look. This is a small but extremely important difference between this and a tablet.

I'm in agreement with the others when they say the PW4 with built in light is the way to go. So many advantages on the PW4 over the model in this thread.

With the PW4 I set the light to about 13 level and can read inside and outside, during the day and at night , and in airplane mode can last weeks on a charge. (if you turn on wifi/bluetooth and FULL brightness the whole time it will last maybe a day. Smilie ) Airplane mode: remember that. Smilie

Don't buy this if you enjoy reading at night or outdoors. The new Kindle Paperwhite will be this price soon at the rate they keep dropping it lol

Ordered this off of a SD front page deal on March 10, with special offers. Still waiting on it to ship. Gonna try to cancel that order and get this one without Amazon advertising to me.

You can chat with Amazon to get rid of the special offer for free. It's pretty easy.

As someone who owns this version. I kind of like not having a backlight. It gives me more of a book vibe.

That's interesting. I didn't realize the E-Reader existed or I'd get this one. I bought the PW and never use the backlight. I guess it could be useful later when I need to use the backlight.

Yeah, but once you compare it to PW4, it's at that point ... that you realize you could have been reading in so many more locations day/night ...outdoors/indoors. The backlight OPTION makes it a 24/7 reader (especially if you are really into a book, and don't want to put it down. Smilie )

Yes, definitely a book vibe. Like a book, you won't be able to read it without a light source Wink

The backlight on the Paperwhite can be turned off if you have proper ambient light, but it comes in handy when lighting is not great.
