The negative feedback on Onkyo is WAY overblown and usually out of date. I wouldn't worry about it.

World Wide Stereo is also on eBay. Can get it for the same price plus the 8% eBay bucks deal going on right now.

Seems like this is the cheapest way into 9.2 or 5.1/2.4 right now.

The retailer seem BIG on Onkyo and Yamaha.

Man, I really wanted a Yamaha or Denon based on some of the negative feedback I've seen about Onkyo, but this deal looks really good. I've been needing to get a 9.2 receiver for my 5.1.4 setup I'm going to be setting up.

I like that they did the rebate deal for a lot of the people who had an issue. I got a new atmos Onkyo for $125 after the rebate. I even sent the rebate in late and they still fulfilled it. My new Onkyo has been fantastic for the first few months at least.

I pulled the trigger on Costco Yamaha deal for the 7.2. Not sure if 9.2 is worth it for the same price but Onkyo vs Yamaha. I am leaning towards sticking with Yamaha.

In this AVR post they first said the Denon 2400 7.2 can do 5.2.4, but further in the article is said 5.2.2. So, which is it, because if the Denon can do even 5.1.4 it may be a better deal for some looking for a .4 Atmos setup?

A 7 channel receiver cannot do 5.x.4, there simply isn't enough channels. It's possible that it has pre-outs so that you could add an amp for the additional two channels, but it's pretty rare.

I returned my new Onkyo 787, it didn't work well with my equipment. It sounded good, but I hated how it worked.

It had a hard time switching to the TV ARC audio input, and there's no way to do so manually, so I'd have to switch inputs back and forth repeatedly before it finally switched so I'd have audio from my TV. It would randomly switch inputs to turn on devices, so when I wanted to stream Netflix to the TV it instead would turn on my PS3 and keep switching back to that input. It would be slow to turn on audio streams, so unpausing a Dolby TrueHD Atmos movie on an Nvidia Shield resulted in several seconds of silence. The setup is annoying, and you can't adjust speaker levels without a test tone playing at full volume. And when it doesn't detect an input signal, it displays the Blue Screen of Death.

The issues that affected me may not be relevant to you, but it seems that corners have been cut to reduce the Onkyo/Pioneer price compared to Sony, Yamaha, Denon.

I tried a brand new Onkyo 787 and hated it.

I can't speak for its reliability, as I only had it for a month, but I hated how it worked compared to the Sony 1080 I was using, so I returned the Onkyo and will get a Sony, Yamaha, or Denon as a replacement.
