Dell is currently offering the 49" QHD 5120 x 1440 monitor for large discount in the members shop for $1,282.49. The 10% veterans coupon stacks, dropping the price to $1154.25. It is normally $1700 and currently $1500 everywhere else.

I have just been informed by a Mod that the word "cashback" is no longer allowed to be used on this deal forum.

Some people working business environments where appearances matter. A single large screen looks more visually appealing than 2 screens.

More importantly, a single screen can provide much better productivity than 2 screens. This monitor supports USB-C with 90W PD. Meaning you do not need to purchase a separate $150-200 dock to connect you laptop. Also has a built in KVM switch with picture by picture inputs, so you can connect a 2 PCs and run them simultaneously on the same screen, controlling both PCs with the same keyboard and mouse. You cannot do that with 2 monitors. Also a single screen allows for better window sizing and quick tiling. You can run 3+ documents/windows/apps side by side without a bezel in the middle.

I need SD horde opinions.. this one or the 38"??

I don't game. Productivity only (coding, excel, web design)

49": 5120 x 1440
38": 3840 x 1600

I don't game. Productivity only.

Will I miss the extra 160 vertical pixels? Is 49" too wide for comfortable use?

I don't game. Productivity only.

You'd be better off with multiple, smaller monitors that you can rotate and decide orientation independently.

This is hella expensive for a sever limitation of usefulness, especially for a coder.

But my office isn't in the ghetto. I want a beautiful single pane of glass and have it narrowed down to one of these two.

After having 2560x1600 30" monitors for years and trying a 1440 on the vertical, personally I couldnt get used to the loss. Plus a 49" is just way too wide to look at without moving your head all over the place. I think the 38" 3840x1600 is as big as monitors should be made. Maybe too big. I think the 30-34" size with 1600 on the vertical is about the sweet spot.

yeah, wasn't my point...
still a hilariously over exaggerated use of the word "ghetto".

Perhaps that's a little harsh, but I do agree that the single monitor is more visually and aesthetically appealing. I am on the tail end of a u3417w frenzy at work. One person requested it, now almost all our users have requested them. The people who move around that get back to their own "flat" setup complain of mild eyestrain and request a curved unit. I initially thought it was Kool-Aid, but I inherited a workspace with one, and I definitely prefer it over two+ monitors. The OP's monitor has a less aggressive curvature, which is better for the larger ones because a slighter curve means more distance is recommended. Supposedly the curvature is directly proportionate to the recommended viewing distance (3800r = 3.8m distance), but I just don't see how that can be given different resolutions and sizes.

That said, they are killing my budget, so for the last user I just gave them mine and I'm going to bring in some old ergotrons from the warehouse and go back to embracing my inner Frankenstein monster. Gonna set up some 27" and 24" (since there's an excess of them now!) and see if the others start wanting that setup instead.
