Drool. Very nice receiver. Upconverting analog to HDMI is very handy for your older devices (e.g. Wii).

Good deal, Wish I could justify this, still holding out on a lower end/earlier model Marantz

Usually 2019 models aren't discounted this soon.

I think a better option is the Marantz SR7012 open box on Amazon for $799. Yymv as there aren't many left

Don't know anything at all about Marantz these days, but for you younger fellows--------------Marantz started to go downhill in the early '70s, but prior to that, they made some quality stereo components and was renown for its top-of-the line tuner (9B, I believe it was called), complete w/ oscilloscope---their receivers, 2-channel, of course, were widely hailed, selling many 20-30-40 watts and higher (maybe 100 or 125, I don't recall exactly) per channel units---it was good stuff, and, naturally I had one, the 2240 w/ 40 watts per.

Isn't the Denon AVR-X3500H a better receiver and cheaper? More watts, Audyssey XT32. I guess there are people who like Marantz more, but I'm not sure what you really get for the extra money over the 3500H. Seems like you lose features/power.

I agree! I do see various sellers with open-box Marantz SR7012, but as you said, YMMV including durability.

I totally agree. Marantz is like 95% identical to Denon with a few exceptions where they have better chips for music processing, adding some flimsy panel between amp and pre-amp section and some other minor structural supports.

How does this compare to the Yamaha Aventage 1080?

I'm thinking this is the better buy: https://flash.newegg.com/Product/9SIADG58KE3800?

Get the SR7012 open box on Amazon. It's same price as this but has 11 ch ability.

It's freaking amazing.

They're actually brand new units but they have to list them as "open box" because their contracts don't allow them to lower the price too much. My unit came in factory sealed, brand spanking new.

I bought it on Amazon seller Sound Distributors Inc
