Good deal and points can be used to by literally anything on the website. They'll show up as soon as seller ships the item.

Dang, there's sales tax? Seems like a really good price, I have the Matebook D, which is great.

Do the points expire? I'll probably use them eventually but I don't want to be in a hurry to do so

Looks they expire after 1 year

https://www.rakuten.com/shop/lega...er-points/

POINT EXPIRATION
Except for RSP earned through a purchase or use a service other than the Company's service provided by the Company Group or the Rakuten Points Credit Card Rewards Program (discussed below), RSP expire on the date that is One (1) year after the RSP becomes available for use. Any expiry information mentioned in the Account is always in Pacific Time basis. If you earn more RSP before the expiration date, all unused points are renewed for another one (1) year unless mentioned otherwise. Once expired, RSP will not be reinstated. If you cancel the Account, you'll lose access to all earned and accumulated RSP, including RSP earned thorough Rakuten Points Credit Card Rewards Program.

besides the high res touch screen and dedicated graphics, is this that much better than the Costco X1 Carbon deal?

Sounds like you just answered your own question. Matebook has much better screen, dedicated graphics, $250 cheaper (if you use the points), no tax for most. Lenovo does win for build quality and support and their hardware won't spy on you if that's important to you (Google and Facebook will though) but the Matebook is the better deal

You do know that Lenovo is a Chinese company right? Like Huawei.

You do know that Lenovo has been caught with backdoors on several occasions right?

I did not know that about Lenovo's history, but I also said if that stuff matters to you and it doesn't to me. Whether through hardware or software they are all already spying on us and have been for years so it's too late to do anything about it now. The first article you linked even suggested that the backdoor in the Lenovo PC was from Intel code and may have ties to the CIA. They are probably reading this post as we speak!
