Remember:
  • DO NOT port forward - unless you want to be cyberjacked
  • Turn off UPnP on your router ( manually set what you need configured )
  • Turn off P2P on your router
if you need remote access to the camera feed run a VPN server on your router. ( an install the VPN client on your mobile device, remote PC .. )

A security camera system is not an alarm system - so also remember to get an alarm system.

For those new to security cameras, please see the following references:

Hi Tofu,

I have not seen many reviews on the newer LaView kits, and in general if you need low light capability the Dahua OEM 2MP starlights are the best value for low light right now. Hikvision darkfighter line is also good from what I have been reading.

FYI - not certain if these are Hikvision OEM, suspect they might be another OEM. Please do double check if you're looking to use Hikvision OEM cameras with this kit. ( like the recent deal we had on the Swann 5MP cameras )

I only need two cameras. Starlites are $120 each. So assume $240+150 for NVR. Am I better off just spending a bit extra for this kit?

Got the 4 PIR and 2 active deterrence camera kit last Black Friday and they've been working great. Still waiting for the active deterrence camera to come back in stock to add one more.

This or the Reolink 4k system that is coming out next month? I'm finally ready to pull the trigger on a system, and don't want to set up a PC for recording.

8 camera or 8 channel? I don't see how you could have gotten this 8 camera setup for that price without some other major discount.
