I bought something similar for a cheap DVR a few years ago... for a 4k digital TV.

There's got to be other folks with that same type of intent, I'm sure.

FYI, this is the only digital converter that works with the old Slingbox.
So you can stream you OTA TV to your phone or to another location.
I still use the Slingbox I bought back in 2014.

The killer feature that this has is DVR. For 20 dollars you can plug this into an antenna, plug a flash drive or hard drive into it and basically have a digital VCR. I use it to record NFL games if I can't or don't want to watch them live.

It works OK for that and the price was right, but I think I'll upgrade to the Amazon Recast or a similar premium product for next season. The software on this is unbelievably bad. It's like a programmable VCR from the 90s (seriously, it's that basic), but a bit more buggy.

Easy way to convert an old monitor as a "TV" for local channels

My 2006 Motorhome came with analog TVs. The next year Winnebago switched to Digital.
Not hard to use a converter.
My Sony Wega TV in the motorhome works great too. Great picture and sound.

It can be used as an OTA PVR with free listing guide?

If true, fantastic deal.

Remember how Vizio made all those TVs without a tuner? (E series) This is probably a good way to assuage their buyers remorse for those who thought it would be a great idea to save $50 and get a tunerless TV. Crying

The built-in speakers on CRT TVs are much better than the built-ins of flat panels. Also, standard definition content looks superior on them with RGB cables (if the source outputs true RGB), as most upscalers of modern TVs aren't great. But for a product like this, an HD display is definitely the way to go.

Edit: Another use case for this is for TVs with poor tuners that don't pick up as many channels.
