I think it's more that 6th Ave isn't an authorized reseller for some or most of their gear, selling gray market equipment instead. The US subsidiaries won't manage warranties or repairs since the products weren't supplied through them. Any warranty would be through the subsidiary that the gear was from, even if that is, say, Nikon of Japan versus Nikon USA.

I don't know the situation of Panasonic suppliers, but it's likely similar.

They are shady, I had bought equipment in the past from them when they were reputable about a decade ago. Recently tried to buy items from them through google express and never received the items. Label and tracking information was created but no movement. Waited over a month past the initial estimated time. Read all the recent complaints about similar scenarios. Tried to make contact with 6th Ave and no response, had to go through google express to get refunded. I would stay as far away as possible...
