Spring Fling:
Get $25 when you join Tello
Sign up to Tello, buy any plan & get $25 free account credit

https://tello.com/promo/springpromo

Offer valid until April 4 for newcomers only. The account credit is received after placing the first order.

A good strategy for getting started with a $25 PayGo balance would be to sign up for their least expensive plan which using their "Build Your Own Plan" seems to be the "100 Minutes + Free Text" for $5. Then before a month is up cancel that plan and keep the $25 for PayGo usage. This balance can last a looooooong time especially for a glovebox phone or low usage. To keep the balance intact you should make sure at least 1 billable event (like a one cent text ) happens every 3 months. On other forums users have said that Tello will text you to ensure the billable event occurs but I would not count on that.
Just to be sure I just checked the site and actually on the FAQ for this promo it reads:
"Does this $25 account credit expire?
Your free $25 credit will expire if no activity is registered in your account for 6 months (no call or order placed)."
Which is even longer than they stated elsewhere previously.
And just be clear I am not advocating avoiding their other plans, I was just documenting a frugal strategy for a low usage scenario.
Tello is an excellent company and have very competitive prices especially for RingPlus Refugees that have old R+ phones lying around.
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

This is a $25 CREDIT. You do not get $25 cash. Must pay at least $5 for first month.

Offer valid until April 4 for newcomers only. The account credit is received after placing the first order.

Use 15OFFAFF for 15% off your order. (thanks to LazyCouchPotato)
Use code 30NEW for 30% off first order. Use referral bonus for extra $20!

I like Tello. I have been using them for a while since the end of the ring+. They were one of the first to offer unlimited 2G data plan. Their 2G speed is around 64Kbps or so. It is slow but still good enough for google hangout call, not sure about other VOIP calls. Their pay2go is one of the cheapest. 10 bucks last for a while. Good for emergency backup phone. But in the recent months, Red pockets and mint mobiles may be offering better deals. If there is no other special deals around, Tello offers one of the most cost effective phone plan.

We have been with Tello since Ring+ decided to jump off a cliff. The service works great for our needs, we have two LG Stlyo 4 factory unlocked phones, one on purely pay as you go, the other on unlimited text and 1/2 gb data for $7. We usually pay about $12 a month total. We have a MagicJack at home, so don't use many cell minutes, and we have wifi at home and work to cut back on fast data use.

I hope Tello stays afloat, I can't see myself paying normal cell phone rates.

100mb LTE is very much useless. I would rather have unlimited slow data 😉.

So, the cheapest plan for Month 1 is $5 for no data and no data. Or am I wrong? And is the SIM free? And it's for Sprint BYOD phones or an extremely limited list of other carriers' unlocked phones only.

I don't see much value in this considering I have the old FreeUp 500/100 MB free plan.

I don't need it but seems like a good deal if I need an extra number to use in future. Like when someone visiting us from other country and we want to have a working phone number for them. Thanks OP for sharing it

If you can find a very cheap phone, that may be a good deal.
Right now their phones are overpriced for what they are - recently they offered Moto e4 for $35 - it is twice as much right now. So, if you need to buy a phone from them to take advantage of the credit, then it is a no deal.

This is a great deal but I already have Tello pay as you go. You can also get at least 35% back on the plan you purchase, even only spending 5$ using a cashback site. I may find a sprint sim to do this deal for an extra phone for my niece.

It looks like you get an additional 30% off the 5$ custom plan using code 30NEW. That makes it $3.50 and after the 35% back from the cashback you are looking at $1.75 spent plus whatever the tax is on the 5$ plan. Then as said just cancel it and have 25$ credit for pay as you go. That much should last a long time as back-up.

I assume this would combine with the referral code to actually give the new customer a total of $35 in Tello dollars.

I don't see much value in this considering I have the old FreeUp 500/1Gig free plan.
FreeUP old free plan only has 100mb data. How did you get 1gb data?

Didn't they change everyone to FreeUp 1000 talk or text/no data? How were you able to retain old plan? Thanks
