ADT sensors, with the exception of the water sensors will ONLY work with the ADT BRANDED HUB and not the regular smartthings hub.

Adt crap only works with the adt branded hub

The ADT/ST sensors don't use Z-wave or Zigbee. The ADT ST hub has an additional communication protocol that it uses for these.

The ADT/ST water leak sensor is the only ADT/ST sensor that uses Zigbee, which is why it CAN be paired with the non-ADT ST hub.

Except for the water sensors, which work with the non-ADT SmartThings hub (v2 anyway). Those are the only ADT branded SmartThings sensors that work.

I get these require a ADT hub, but do I need a ADT subscription to use these or the required hub?

Will these work as regular smoke alarms if you do not have the hub?

Also in for an answer on this. I have an old ADT system and a few of the wired detectors are malfunctioning. Could I replace them with these and use them as local smoke detectors? I dont pay for ADT, the system is set up from the previous homeowners.

It looks like both the smoke and CO have alarms so I believe they still work as stand alone devices.

So what keeps these ADT branded devises from communicating with a typical V2 hub? If its a software/device handler, I'm sure someone will eventually figure it out. If its a hardware limitation we would be out of luck unless some intermediate hardware 'repeater' could translate.

I wouldn't suggest a smoke detector alone... Most these days come with carbon monoxide sensors and all.

I have a fireplace so my main alarms are smoke and co2.

As for the hub? If you only need smoke, and get this alarm for $10. It's a good deal just got an alarm. I've never had anything automatically alert anything.

I don't need emergency services rushing to my house cuz I forgot to open the flume, or burned some popcorn...

They will make noise for 'smoke and extreme temps'

They are normal alarms that CAN connect to the adt hub.

edit: so, $10 is decent if you're looking for a simple alarm. $70... if you don't have the correct hub you're paying for features you can't use. basically.
