I'm more concerned about failure rate. I can test and exchange with authentic one but failure rate is out of our hands. I would make sure Patriot makes good sd.

Also real life performance.

I ordered this card and received a 64GB Sandisk. Gonna wait till refund comes to retry...

Unlike the Samsung EVO/Select this is v30 certified, which promises a min speed of 30MB. Warranty on this isn't 10yrs like Samsung so that's one thing to consider.

V30 and A1 are marketing tool. It costs to get certs. Samsung doesn't care about those. Ignore v30 for u3 cards. They are pretty much all v30 quality.

My concern with Samsung is authenticity. I've gotten fake LG Tones and SD cards from Amazon. With Patriot being a smaller player the odds appear to side with the buyer.

Looks like the lowest price so far for a new, name brand 256GB card.

Noob question, but how do you test for it being fake? Would this make a good memory card for a samsung galaxy S9, advice? Thanks

Ask that same question into Google and you will find what you seek. I did same thing three years ago and found a benchmark test thing. Filled up a supposedly 120 GB card at 2 GB so it was obviously fake...

You can do it by checking the write and read speeds through an android app or windows app (there are many to choose from for free). You can compare them to see if they match the speeds on the package label.

Reviews for other Patriot sdcards are eh. With that in mind I still wanted to gamble on this one. I'll just get the 128GB and wait for Black Friday.

My would not rule out questioning the authenticity of these as well.
I had bought 8GB Patriot mSD cards from 3rd party seller on Amazon couple of years ago - all of them got corrupted and failed eventually, just because they were not 8GBs really,
So Samsung is not only the brand being faked, and I would expect the less known names facing less scrutiny, the fakes are easier to push.
