Movado was never considered a really high end brand. It may be a level above Seiko or Citizen or Fossil etc because it is a swiss watch. However comparing it to more decent brands like Tag Heuer, Omega, etc is once again another level above that but those watches typically start in the $1000 range and go to about $6000. Then you get to Rolex which is more mid tier that starts around $6000. The upper ones are like Patek Phillipe which start close to $20k and go to a million.

But to answer your question yes Movado is still a decent watch if you're used to brands like Seiko or Citizen or Fossil. But lately their brand has been pushing the bottom price envelope so I too believe their image is deteriorating. Before you could not get a Movado for below $300 and now this is at half that.

I don't know much about watches, but always thought Movado was a good brand. Why do you think they've gone down hill? I bought last night but having second thoughts now.. thx

Movado was not ever mighty. It has been just a nice lower tier Swiss watch for a long time. After all I think the museum watches are all quartz. Maybe there is an exception. The museum piece came out in the 1980 s. It was unique then. No numbers just a dot at 12:00. People bought it. 35 years later and they are still selling variations of the same watch. At 39mm case, the men's is about the same size as the ones in the 80s. If you always wanted one then this is a good price to scratch the itch but the men's version is closer to the size women like today. It is pretty small for men.

You cannot find a Movado below $300 at legitimate retail stores. Ashford is a grey-market retailer that sells authentic watches but, unlike retail stores, they are not warrantied by the manufacturers themselves.

Don't listen to his comment. I have many Movado watches for years and never failed.

I'd put seiko above movado. Seiko 5, grand seiko are all pretty awesome and have horological history to them. Movements are considered reliable.

It's quartz watches are ok for quartz, but if your buying a quartz watch you don't care about any of that anyway, it's an expendable fashion item.
