The old version would go on sale for $250 pretty regularly. Two weeks ago it was selling for $235 shipped from Focus Camera and it sold on black friday for $200 new I believe a year or two ago. The new version apparently lacks reverse playability and a few other features you may or may not want so worth researching.

Personally, I would take your time and really research the options out there. In this price range maybe compare the Fluance RT-82 or the U-Turn Orbit Plus. It all depends on the features you would like and if you prefer direct drive or belt drive. Your audio equipment also makes a huge difference because past a certain point you probably won't be able to tell unless you have a nice setup already.

You can also look into vintage offerings on offer up, craigslist, facebook, etc. and find a great turn table for half this price.

Lots of options out there.

Easy. Project! Better parts, cart and stylus are better, belt driven, sleek and just sounds better than a AT.

This is a great turntable at a great price. Got mine last year at the same price but it didn't have any additional items with it. Love the sound. This will be the last turntable I ever need.

First TT?? all i have to say is think seriously hard if its important for the arm to automatically return when the record is finished. I can't remember sometimes (the worst). most of the time i just dont like getting up to manually do it myself.

Would you use the Mackie MDB for the Audio-Technica. I got the previous model for $183 shipped around Thanksgiving. It's working great. I am not sure how best to optimize it. Right now I connect it to my Ion speaker which I know isnt the best way. TIA for your advice.

Could anyone here recommend the best player, at around this price point, which also has usb capability? I'm reading mixed reactions for this one. I don't have a killer setup to pair a TT with, nor do I plan on investing in one anytime soon (eventually), what I'm looking for though is a table with great digital output capabilities as I want to convert all of my parents really old and out of print 33s and 45s to digital. Most of the vinyl is in so-so condition so I'd need something that isn't easily susceptible to skipping. Oh, and I could care less about 78 support.

In this price range I would also give Craigslist a look. A couple years back I picked up a vintage Realistic Lab-390 with ADC Series 1 cartridge for $150. It sounds much better than my LP120 i had at the time.

Lots of great vintage turntables at great prices if you're willing to put in the time to search for them.

If you are stuck between these two, I would go with the latter choice. I've enjoyed the sound and build quality of the Pro-ject turntables over the "decent" sound of the LP120.

Don't forget a good pre-amp of you dont already have one! They have a great impact on the sound quality. A great preamp can make an "OK" turntable sound great.
