I was just looking at this! May want to mention this is the mid-2017 model with V2 butterfly switches (although inconvenient, they are covered [apple.com]).

On the bright side, this is an Apple Refurb. MicroCenter also has third party refurbs with only a 90 day warranty.

Is this worth it? It's a refurb on a model with known keyboard issues but it's also a 15" pro at probably the lowest price you'll find.

I would recommend that you dont buy any Macbook Pro's or Macbook Air until Apple fixes the keyboard issue...otherwise you will be stuck with a very expensive repair

Repairs related to the butterfly keyboards are free.

It's not so much an "expensive repair", just a huge inconvenience to backup your laptop and then be without it for 4 days

looks like microcenter has some other decent deals on "apple certified refurbished" pros and airs too...kinda tempting.

but i dunno, just tough for me to shell out ~$800-1500 for *any* machine with only 128/256GB storage (i know, it's uber-fast stuff and fine for lots of folks, and that's cool...)

since it's 2017 model the processor is only quadcore vs current 6-core, on the bright side no huge throttling issues. Also there were tests showing that 256 SSD is noticeably slower that 512Gb+ SSD models.

The replacement will also be the 2 gen butterfly and problem may resurrect again and again, will this program cover the lifetime repairing of these models? That'd be a deal.
