Maybe he was thinking of NJTransit, where there are 2 more stops (Newark Penn Station and Secaucus) between EWR and NY Penn.

Keep in mind this is basic economy. Still a good getaway though

With Basic Economy:

Seats are assigned prior to boarding. Advance seat assignments may be available for purchase during booking and up until check-in opens. Prices vary based on route and availability. You will not be eligible to purchase Economy Plus® seating or premium cabin upgrades, or receive Economy Plus subscription benefits. With standard Economy, customers traveling together can choose seats together if open seats are available.
With Economy: Complimentary seat assignments are only offered when available on United and United Express® flights. There may be a charge for Economy seat assignments on our partner airlines.
Bags should be checked before airport security for the applicable fee. Bags brought to the gate incur an additional $25 gate handling charge. MileagePlus® Premier members, primary cardmembers of qualifying MileagePlus credit cards, and Star Alliance™ Gold members may bring on board a full-sized carry-on bag at no charge. All travelers are allowed a small personal item that fits under the seat in front of them, such as a shoulder bag, purse, laptop bag or other small item, 9 inches x 10 inches x 17 inches (22 cm x 25 cm x 43 cm) or less. Mobility aids and other assistive devices are also permitted.
Ticket changes are not allowed. This includes advance changes and same-day changes, even for Premier members. Fares are nonrefundable.

Yes, and constant delays to boot. It's still doable, but 15 mins is not how long it takes to get from NYC to EWR airport. Just going from Penn Station to Newark train station takes like 20 mins on a good day. EWR is one stop further, and that doesn't include time to get to Penn Station or time on the Airtrain to get to the actual terminal, with luggage!

But that's a great deal on a flight to CR.

I don't see the deal here.

Other than being non stop to SJO, there are many cheaper flights nyc-sjo through other airlines like volaris, copa, and delta with one stop throughout the year.

This (~$400) is the going price for Liberia (LIR), not SJO. Ever since they built the new airport in LIR, ticket prices have been going up to land at that airport. But tickets to SJO got can easily find between $300-350 and if you are lucky, <$300.

compare apples to apples.

this is a nonstop flight on united airlines.

volaris/copa is like frontier/spirit, with one stop.

Pay bit higher and get regular economy if you using check in bag. Basic economy no check in bag plus non refundable and change is not permitted.

There is no path to EWR. Must take NJ Transit

Volaris may be but at least they allow one full size carry on for free, and most definitely Copa is not like frontier/spirit, it is a major airline in Central and South America.

And this "non-stop" flight is basic economy fare which means you still have to pay for your seat and carryon, like other LCC, unless you upgrade your ticket to a higher priced regular economy.

There are two airports in Costa Rica, depending on where you want to go, you can either land in LIR or SJO.
Pacific coast beaches are closer to LIR (I think it takes about 45 min if I remember correctly), SJO is better ifyou plan on visiting the cloud forest. To go to the volcano Arenal, it would take about 3-4hrs from both airports, slightly faster from LIR.

This is incorrect. From Newark Penn Station(PATH) to closest Manhattan stop is at least 20-22 minutes on the Path. Not even that segment of travel is 15 minutes.

Newark Penn Station is 12 minutes (fastest no traffic in cab) to 20-22 minutes (cab w/ traffic or public transportation) away from the actual EWR airport. All t his is also not counting any walking time in between which adds another 5-10 minutes at the very least of time waiting for cab/transport.

The guy who said at least 30 minutes is right. I would estimate 40-50 minutes on average including walking/waiting time.
