Not slow at all. AMD has been putting out good Cpus ever since Ryzen. No dedicated GPU so gaming wouldn't be good on it but even AMD integrated GPU (Vega 8) is far better than what Intel offers.

This ryzen 5 2500u ia close to i5 8250u performance wise. However integrated iGPU is better than Intel's.

Yes, and a 2.5" drive (ie sata ssd or HDD) can be added

Edit: Went ahead and purcahsed myself; will be transferring the ssd and hdd out of my current laptop to this new one, and picked up a kit of some used Crucial Ballistix 8gb DDR4 ram sodimm sticks!

I stopped into BB today and this was listed at $849, tried to get them to price match but since the model # was slightly different, no dice. This had everything I was looking for at the 500'ish price point namely:

1) USB-C (Gen 2)
2) 1080p touchscreen
3) upgrade-ability for drive/memory (I already have a 2.5 inch disk I can put in)
4) 2-1 a bonus

Not much else out there at this price point that has all of the above. Placed my order today.

So how slow is this? Bought an AMD way back and it was crippled with slowness.

With similarly spec'd lenovo flex 6 deals dipping into the mid 400s rather often, is there any reason to fork out the extra for this hp? Build quality? Upgradeability? Etc?

How easy to swap out the hard drive? 128 gigs is nothing. What other options do I have.

In addition....is the battery removal? Sometimes I need more battery and hate built in batteries.

If your PC is "slow" it's because of the hard drive, not the CPU.

I have the ryzen 7 version of this. The biggest issue I have with it is that the rubber strips at the bottom started peeling off a month or two after I got it. Talked to hp support and they sent me replacements. I haven't put them on yet because I have a feeling they're going to come off again just as easily.

No, it was the cpu.
I bought a A7 way back when Walmart had the $79 laptops on clearence. Added 4gb ram and 256gb SSD and it was painfully slow.
However, Ryzen cpu's are another animal altogether
