42WHr battery so it's going to have mediocre to poor battery life relative to other current gen models.

On the upside it does have a backlit keyboard and pen support. Those aren't features you see too often on sub-$500 laptops.

Is the "Certified" better than simply "Open Box - Excellent?"

Nope. I've purchased a ton of open-box stuff from Best Buy over the years and have never found the "Geek Squad certified" items to be in superior condition. Hell, many of them have been in worse condition (severe backlight bleed, corner of the display popping out of the laptop frame) which leads me to believe no one is actually inspecting the so-called certified units. It's basically Best Buy's version of "seller refurbished" (another empty, completely meaningless marketing term typically seen on eBay).

Anyone know the SSD type? Sata III or MVNe?

Also, I'm assuming that's NOT a Thunderbolt 3 port? (could be a deal killer for me, otherwise solid deal for those who do not care about TB3)

.

I got similar model Q405UA-BI5T5 open box for around $330. Just different color and had 1tb hdd. Some one returned it merely using 7 hrs. I swap the hdd with 512ssd, and its excellent. You can read reviews of my model for m2 and ram install. Both slot located beneath motherboard , so you have to open it all.

Just got one! Used it in store for a few minutes, does not have the best build but works great, display is very good.

Also, works really well with the bamboo ink. I've tried Samsung notebooks, but this one felt better. Great deal for this price.
