I would like to listen to these just to know what I'm missing and whether this level of headphone/earphone is worth it for me.

What is the regular price that this is a deal? What justifies this price?

$500 headphones to listen to Uber lossy compressed mp3s. Rotflmao!
Why would you assume these are used by people listing to MP3?

I think the general scientific (tested) conclusion is that very few people can differentiate 320kpbs MP3 and FLAC. I was unable to using HD 58X, so I personally use 320kpbs MP3 happily.

Storage is cheap - I use FLAC
Been using a pair of Westone 4R for many years, temped to try these W60.

The 58x isn't very good, so that's not surprising at all. A good dac/amp and player to go along with flac files AND high-end phones is critical. You don't hook up a fire hose to a kitchen sink and expect better results.

The people who are buying these w60s to use with their iphones... are going to be really disappointed.

I think almost nobody can discern between 320 and lossless. Using ABX and optimal listening, I top out somewhere between 224 and 256 - and I think of myself as fairly picky.

This is super tempting to replace my UM3x but I really don't have a need for it and I promised myself that my next good set were going to be molded.

That doesn't matter. 580 is good enough to push details all the way up to 21k HZ, but if you are physically incapable of detecting frequency above 18k hz (which most people are), none of the headphones can help you distinguish between 320kbps and lossless.

Wow; when money isn't an issue.. I wonder if it's health or insomnia or infidelity.

That's all theoretical. In reality, you can hear a difference (at least I can). When I swap in my monster turbine pro golds (go beyond 20k hz) in place of my se846s, there's a huge difference--all other hardware and audio files the same.
