I think generally 580 will be better then the 1060. But I think that the 580 would need a larger PSU compared to the 1060. You also get 2 extra GB of Vram with the 580. But some games are optimized for AMD and some nvidia. AMD is also cheaper. both are great cards and if you have one there wouldn't be any reason to get the other. the RX 580 8gb is one of the best value graphics card you can get in terms of Frames per dollar.

Take a look at this site. Keep in mind on this site there isnt a distinction between the 4gb 580 and 8gb 580 they are just "AMD RX 580" but there is a distinction between the 1060 3gb and 6gb

That's because the rx 580 8gb/4gb are he same other then the vram difference while the 1060 3gb is completely different compared to the 6gb. Also the 1060 6gb trades blows with the 580 with the 1060 winning in some and 580 in others at the same price I would recommend the 1060 because way lower wattage usage

Holy Jesus 😳 these cards are getting cheap!!!! Something big around the corner...or massive excess mining preorder stock??
Navi from Radeon comes out "soon", so yes, this will be last generation models at that point. I think they are getting announced in a month, but don't quote me on that.

Do you think this would play Fornite stutter-free on an old i7 860 or is the processor too much of a bottleneck? Currently Fortnite gets major lag at the absolute wrong times with a Radeon 5770 installed.

I run a gtx1080 with an i72600k. Used to run a 5770 back in 2012! I say go for it.
