Dell has a great price after factoring in the GC.

Also you can sign up to their rewards program (free) for an extra 3%-6% ($30-$60) in GCs.

The OP has an option to get a secondary GC valued at $30-$60, so $180-$210 difference before tax if treated as cash.
I also do not think you understand the program. The $30 GC is free but the $60 is not. That is the paid program. It will also come as a second giftcard which hurts due to Dells limited payment usages. Either way, decent deal for those who can use the GC.

The smartcast UI, or whatever they call their software, is a major pain.

I also have this TV and love it. The comment about the Smartcast UI is true and it sucks. The Hulu app won't play live TV so I have to use a fire stick and that works great. The Vizio remote also works with the fire stick which was a bonus I didn't know about.

I haven't had any of the issues reported in this thread. Picture has been beautiful and don't regret buying it at all.

Has anyone used Citi price rewind? Since Chase and Discover removed the PP I looked and saw Citi still had an option but I have never used it before. Could you buy this and submit BB/Costco price of $900 and get the difference?
Yes. $1000 per calendar year and up to $200 per claim. Citi Price Rewind is easier to use than Chase and Discover.

Thanks, repped! Might give it a shot. Since total will be about $1,070 up front with $100 back through citi and about another $80 through CB. So $900 with $250 GC and $30 GC.

I do understand. I believe you can use up to 3 forms of payment and I believe more if you talk with a rep. The $60 GC is free, but you have to use Dell financing to get that vs the $30. Whether you choose to pay it off before interest accrues is up to the individual. Still free though.

Got a display unit from Costco for $540. I guess they are retiring this model.
What's your technique to get the floor model? Anything special aside from simply asking for it?

At my Costco they just put a sign on it eventually, saying it is the Display Model. Never really noticed a very big discount from the original price though.

Trying to rack my brain for something that I want from dell/to use the gift card on. The only thing I need is a 9.2 receiver. I don't see any available from dell and looking back through slick deals, shows me they never had a deal on one. Has anyone ever seen one offered by dell?

Easiest thing to flip is MS Gift cards. Especially right before the Dell GC expires. If you don't find anything, you can buy the MS/Xbox GCs. They don't expire and you can sell them in a day for 80% face value. More if you are willing to wait a bit.

Edit: Aaaaand I did not answer your question...

No, I don't recall seeing receivers on their site. But if the above sounds enticing, or if it helps anyone else, then cheers!

Hey, quick question about the FALD blooming issues that you and others have reported on. Looks nasty in the videos I've seen. I would hate it. My question is: do you think it's a fundamental issue with how Vizio's hardware responds to local dimming, or do you think it's a panel lottery kind of issue. I don't mind rolling the dice and trying to get lucky with a good panel. But if it's something like an algorithm issue, I would rather stay away.
I am pretty confident it's their algorythm that drives the local dimmimng too hard in an attempt to create a really strong effect.

Do you have a tv you would reccomend? I've been on the fence with the vizio P and PQ, but it's the issues you've mentioned and its upconverting that have kept me on the fence. I've also considered the 900f and Q8, but the more I delve down the research hole I find reports of issues with them to, to an extent. OLED isn't an option for me (kids and wife cannot be trusted lol). I was dead set on the 900f before I started down the research path...At this point I'm wondering if I should just say screw it and pickup a cheaper non FALD tv like the Q6 and just hang out and wait to see what another year or so brings....

Been 2 months since my 2013 Sony gave up the ghost, and I'm still staring at the line of dead pixels down the middle of the screen because I cant seem to find the right set to buy lol!!
Picking up a cheap edge lit to tide you over is an option.

There's a lot of sets I haven't had experience with but at the moment I would either go TCL 6 series for budget or try and find a Sony z9d of I was going to spend a bit.

That said my belief is any fald will have some DSE and if your are a big hockey fan I would avoid pretty much all of them as it will look bad.

I would suggest narrowing it down to two options, one for budget and one for long term and get the budget one at a place your can easily return to. If you find the budget one unacceptable you could return it and your will probably feel better about investing in the higher end one.

Did you run these tests via internal streaming apps or external blu-ray player?

What setting was the local dimming on?

What mode was the TV in (Game mode?)?

Not sure you can rule out a configuration issue. Sounds like it may be that areas you think are black aren't actually black, so the Vizio thinks it needs to turn on the backlight there.

The chief issue would be compression de-blocking. If the internal algorithms are turned off or if something else is doing the job poorly and lying to the TV, it would produce blocks of non true black.
I tried a lot of settings and combinations. I had it setup next to a TCL 6 series for two months and spent dozens of hours running all kinds of configurations and test patterns.

I had both the vizio and TCL replaced (Vizio for visible light grid TCL for failed WiFi hardware) and the vizio blooming happened with both sets.

I tried with dinming in all settings from internal and external apps. Hdr10 and dv, low quality steaming sdr like Pluto and high quality cable 1080p.

I tested calibrated, calibrated dark, normal and tried all combination of image effects most notably including all of them off.

I am very thorough. I would even swap the location of the TV's as I tested several times to ensure slight viewing angle and height differences weren't favoring one

I also have a good general understanding if how the technology works and am confident in my opinion of why it happens and that it's working as intended.

The panel not going entirely black showing a black screen might be able to be tweaked but dropping brightness more than a few notches crushed black detail and I ran backlight ask the way from around 18 for light controlled up to 100. The local dimmimng issue was still terrible.

The tv has excellent motion interpolation options, in fact the only one I have actually ever liked and the images enhancement for macro blocking was likewise quite good.

But they have nothing to do with the local dimming issue.

Really most the TV's features were excellent except the built in wifi was weak and the smart cast system is very laggy.

What's hard to see in the videos that you can see in real life is each section of lights turning on and off in order much like a bunch of people holding flashlights standing behind a curtain. It has an almost fluttering crawling pattern similar to the feel of when a car drives behind a slotted fence with it's head lights on at night.

It's such an effect you can easily tell it's the back lights and not anything at the LCD level.

It's just on the floor. I have never seen any TVs like this at Costco.
