That was an awesome deal, but this one is still pretty good.

This is Wirecutter's pick for best air purifier.

https://thewirecutter.com/reviews...-purifier/

Just to preempt some questions, the filters for these are about $40- $50, but that's only once per year, as opposed to some other purifiers you need to change more often. They tested an old filter, and found it was still in good shape, so you could probably get away with using it for more than 1 year. Electricity costs are low too (according to the above review), so overall operating costs are low.

The white version is also this price. https://www.amazon.com/Coway-AP-1...01728NLRG/

a fan fed hepa cloth with fancy plastic cover shouldn't cost $170, this thing is worth about $60 and on sale should be around $40;
The cost of the physical components only covers some of it. Designing a device that is quiet, efficient, low power, and durable is why they can charge so much. There's a lot of junk air purifiers out there, so people will pay a premium for quality devices that will last year's.

So I work in a doctor's office, one who specializes in asthma and other lung disorders. Adding a filter to the waiting room, and possibly the exam rooms (2 of them) was suggested by many patients this past winter due to allergies and some of the smell of some of the patients (smokers).

The thing is, the staff is pretty busy and having them go through 4 exam rooms and a waiting room to turn on the machines and then turn them off before leaving is something that concerns me.

Is it safe to use a smart plug and just set it on schedule? Turn it on an hour or so before the office even opens and then turn it off at 5PM? Is there a danger to the purifier in having it shut off and on from the plug as opposed to manually turning it off? And can the purifier be turned on in this manner after it has been off from the day before, or does it still require a button-press to be turned on?

From the Q&A on Amazon it looks like you have to manually restart them when unplugged.

I have these, and they will restart on the same setting when unplugged. They work perfectly with a smart plug.

https://www.amazon.com/Purifier-W...B07CV1H65W.

They're also smaller and cheaper, but should be big enough for an exam room. Use the savings to buy 2 or 3 for the waiting room. Filters cost about the same over time, and you can change color of the covers.

I have one of these. Super great. Definitely helped clear almost the entire bottom floor of our apartment during the Carr first last year.

Thanks for this.

You made me look closer at the Amazon page and it turns out there's a timer feature. 8 hours should be plenty and should negate the need for a smart plug.
