I bought the Dell G7 RTX 2060 deal last month, even on the highest settings you can get well over 60fps on most games. That being said, if I could go back, I would make sure to get the 144hz version.

To potentially offer some upside to your decision - I personally would opt for a 60 hz version myself. Save the price premium, and get slightly better battery life.

An RTX 2060 is a great card to purchase an external 144 hz monitor for. You could always dock it to the monitor when gaming. There are plenty of great (unofficially) g-sync compatible freesyn monitors to be had for ~$150.

This way, you put the premium of a 144 hz panel towards an even bigger screen, with adaptive sync technology (a feature I personally can't go without nowadays).

I'm looking to get an intro level gaming laptop. Is this considered a good deal at the moment?

Good deal for new technology (rtx2060). I have a very similar msi laptop that I bought a couple months back with a gtx1060 and 16gb DDR4 RAM. I personally upgraded the screen to a 120hz panel from eBay. Really easy to do, just have to make sure the screen is comparable with your laptop. Because even with a 1060, I'm able to take games released just a couple years ago and max them out at 120fps

Beware of the overheating issues with this chassis - it is worse than most. Otherwise it is a solid deal for this gen of tech.

Is there something that can be done to help alleviate the overheating, like a laptop pad/stand with fans?

Thanks now I remember there was a reason why I didn't get this last time it was on sale. It ran stupid hot.

But you forget the 60hz panel Dell uses is trash, literally a panel they put on $500 laptops. You're gonna pay this much to look at that?

Even that won't last, even re pasting and undervolting takes this thing to 95 under load and that's fresh out the box, over time it will hit TJMaxx quickly.

If I was using a nice monitor while I gamed, I don't think I'd care about the screen for the other times I was using it. I personally don't care how accurate the colors on my excel spreadsheets are.

But it's a fair point, maybe other people would be bothered by that fact.

Only 8GB of ram, 60hz screen instead of 144hz. And heating issues.
