Except for the part where this is the cheapest 10" 1080p tablet from a name brand company on the market.

To really make this a slickdeal you can buy this via Google Express and stack the 20% new customer discount to bring it down to $80. If you've already used the discount you can create a new google acct and the deal will be active on it.
Discount code "APRSAVE19"

Man this really needs to be cheaper or upgraded for this price point. It's gone on sale so many time for this price. I was never lucky enough to get one of the limited credit card deals for this tablet.

Agreed, this has went on sale for this price numerous times last year, so at this point I'd wait for a refresh.

It's rootable, and the bootloader can be unlocked (if you've got a linux system you can run the scripts on) [xda-developers.com], but there are no custom ROMs yet. Couple of guys working on coming up with one over at XDA [xda-developers.com].

Good to know. Custom ROM would make this a killer tablet.

I have outfitted the whole family with them. Good screen, decent battery, thin/light. Easy sideload of Google services and it is easily the best <$100 tablet. Very usable.

->I wish I could find an easy way to change the launcher (not the highjacker that flashes the screen.) Anyone know of one?

after you root, install an alternate launcher, then in an ADB shell, activate superuser rights ("su"), then "pm disable com.amazon.firelauncher". More detailed instructions on XDA.

Great tablet. Step up with screen from HD8 which is pretty dark. Also comes with 12 months of warranty vs HD8 which is only 3 months.

I will 2nd it's a great tablet and I thought the 8 was just a mini version of it and I was wrong. I got it for $80 I think via some $20 off $100 Targer deal during Nov last year so I'll wait for it to hit $80 or less for new before getting a 2nd one. Side load Google Services is all I need to make it a functional Android tablet.

The screen's nice the rest is underpowered. If you switch apps infrequently it functions ok. Also the UI is Amazon centric, it takes some work to make it normal, and Amazon does updates that randomly break things.

I like mine overall with limited use. Paid $65 and that's about what it's worth.
