The connector isn't retractable, the cap is.

Just got mine in the other day. IT SUCKS! Writes in fits and starts at terrible speeds. Very wonky. I have the same drive from years ago and it was great. My experience is not unique, they have swapped for cheaper chips. Not sure where you got the posted write speeds OP? But you'll be lucky to get ~15MB/s. It will jump from 0 to ~30 and back down to 0, rinse repeat. I'm returning it.

Our company got stuck with two dozen of these. Half died. PNY said they purchased bad USB 3.0 chips from a manufacturer and used them anyway. They did not honor their warranty. They also told me that since I purchased through CDW they would not honor it.

Have a 64gb stick for about 5 years now. Still going strong. Not sure about this more recent batch by the looks of reviews.

3/3 that I had failed within a few months. Kept default formatting, wrote at most a few hundred gigs of data, and were only plugged in for transfers. Left in a desk drawer most of the time so I would blame quality over handling.

Ah ok, because small files can trip up cheap controllers. Perhaps the port was under powered? Some drives are finicky with that as well, either way, not great to be sure.
