I have the H900N and the ANC is not "slightly less" than xm3. ANC is much better on the xm3. Its not night and day but you will noticed it right away. Also the xm3 is much more comfortable to wear than my H900N.
I don't have any comfort issues with my 900s when wearing throughout the work day, though of course everyone has a different shape head.

I was more pointing out that the 900s are available for $100 or less (or less, I paid $65 from an eBay surplus seller two weeks back in like new condition)

I'll admit that I don't have the experience with the XM3 like you do, but my in store trials between the two didn't seem to be a significant difference in that environment, especially when I was listening to the sample music.

Check out the H900N if you're in the used marked anyways and don't need the best ANC around. Plenty of examples around the $100 mark.

Sound quality is similar to the XM3, ANC is slightly less, but a fraction of the price.
Just grabbed a pair of H900Ns for $92 open box after your comment, and reading this reddit thread [reddit.com]. I am reasonably happy with the ANC on my $25 headphones, so I think this can only be an improvement. Thanks for saving me $150!

What I don't understand is how there are so many refurbs of a brand new model like this. It seems like every couple of weeks there is a deal on these refurbished.

There must be a widespread problem to have so many refurb units...

a lot of times people buy items, regret their purchases and refund them. thats common for all electronic devices. its brand new, but the item has been out for 8 months now.

I would never buy refurb or open box Sony. I had a set of these headphones that died after 9 months and I called Sony support that they told me no warranty because it was Amazon used item even though it was Amazon warehouse like new and it was only like 10% off

Costco has these (WH-H900N) for $199 in black online. I bought them in the warehouse in silver, and the ANC is good enough to keep out the noise from my tractor.

Will Citi card's 2 year warranty work for this? If it does then you won't need to get the Square trade one.
