Been thinking really hard on purchasing this for light video editing and photo editing. I need something for on the go, and the specs this laptop has is perfect. What do you guys think? The price is really good too, i couldn't find anything under 1k with these specs.

I just picked up this model used and have been putting it through the paces. Out of the box it was apparently optimized for battery life over performance - I got well under average score with the userbenchmark test. The processor power settings were not visible immediately in windows, I had to make the registry edit described here to enable the settings:

https://www.tenforums.com/tutoria...ndows.html [tenforums.com]

After setting the maximum processor state to 100%, I moved to the 97th percentile for the 8565u. Surely some of that is luck with the silicon but you can be sure Dell's cooling & other system choices here are allowing top notch performance.

I would not recommend this for gamers, I tried a couple games and think you really need a 1050ti or better, but for others where the form factor, 4k, and/or CPU are key, I'm extremely happy with this unit and think this is a great deal.
hey can you tell me what exactly you did? i did the Cmd add code, and not sure what to do from there. thank you!

So I work at Best Buy, and amongst the complaints about this laptop in general is the terrible battery life. Average of 5.5-6ish hours. Now understand it automatically enabled in 4K resolution, you have to lower the resolution to 1080P to extend the battery life. But overall that it charges a bit slower and less than average battery life, it's a good performance ultrabook.

Lowering down the resolution will not help the battery life much Display technology does not work on that way.

Yeah I should have written this the first time, their "option 1" using the command prompt did not work for me. I tried "option 2", the registry edit, and that made the setting available.

Once I completely their option 2, I was able to edit the setting. The exact instructions for getting to the setting:
1. Press Windows key
2. Type power and select Power and Sleep Settings
3. Click "Additional power settings"
4. Click "Change plan settings"
5. Click "Change advanced power settings"
6. Click processor power management (this was invisible to me on this computer prior to the registry edit), click maximum processor state, and set to 100%

Just a preference- but it's a shame they didn' put in a numeric keypad instead of just having huge side "bezels" on the keyboard. Only reason I've been wanting a 15.6" laptop is to get a numeric keypad - I do financial data mining and constantly use numeric keypads when scripting.

Out of curiosity, is there any way we can get a usb based numeric keypad -- there seem to have usb-based attachments nowadays for everything. I too would like a numeric keypad option and could see that as a possible solution (lpve the specs too much to give up on this deal for 750ish out the door, open box)

The 4k screen would do wonders for your work I bet...

You can get the new MBA 18' for the same price if you are patient.
Why would anyone buy a useless MacBook with mediocre specs instead instead of this computer?

My MBP just died, how good is the color accuracy of this screen? I need as much color as possible for photo editing.
