Thanks for this; I was paying $6 a month over 2 years now for Thundernews + Octane VPN and thought I was getting a great deal.

Since Newsdemon uses the same provider as Thundernews (Omicron Media) I'm hoping that I won't notice any difference in service.

Newsdemon even provides free VPN service as well for its members (SlickVPN) ergo switching seems like a no brainer. Hope I'm right laugh out loud

Solid deal, was actually going to post deal after finding it and buying 2TB, but OP beat me to it by like 10 minutes. Smilie

repost https://slickdeals.net/f/13015414-newsdemon-usenet-got-promo-1tb-blocks-8-500gb-monthly-2-mo-unlimited-3-mo?v=1 I've been paying $3 for over a year and didn't know it included VPN. Turns out it wasn't a big deal, too slow for normal use.

Haven't used newsgroups in a decade. How are they doing? Do you still have to dl a ton of extra par files? What's a modern client these days? Advantages over private trackers?

Can't properly answer most of your questions, as my setup is 100% automatic, so I never pay attention to what it's doing. For current shows / movies, I haven't had any issues (save for one particular animated show on TBS where, for whatever reason, those that create episode info for the likes of Sonarr can't seem to agree with TBS on season / episode numbering, which can sometimes screw with acquisition). I use sabnzbd, Sonarr, and Radarr for media acquisition. It's literally been "Set It and Forget It"(TM) ...

As to advantages over bittorrent -- no DL/UL ratios to worry about, don't need to worry about there being enough seeders in general, it's easier on folks with bandwidth caps (since you don't have to keep seeding), don't need to use a VPN service (so far as I can tell)... Hell, rather soon after I started using Usenet, my ISP called me and started asking questions about my equipment (whether it was secured, if someone was possibly using it without me knowing, etc) because they noticed a pretty severe uptick in traffic. They knew it was Usenet traffic, but had no idea what I was downloading, and I refused to tell them when I asked... Wink

That said, you do need to be a member of a good nzb aggregator, which isn't free, and for a while I had a hell of a time getting into one (they seemingly get shut down a lot). The one I use now has been around for quite a number of years and has been the best one I've used, hands down...

If you are willing to go through the hassle of getting all the software set up, it can make video fantastically easy. I've been using usenet for binaries for 20 years and it's hilarious to me how easy things are now. Retention rates are also insane. With that said, non-video content seems to have waned. I used to use audio groups religiously, but not as much is posted these days.
