I just dont understand Google s greediness and stinginess. They want to spy you all thro life, willing to pay for it, having the highest asset in the world, yet when they come to discount, they want to give it only for fresh victims, sorry, customers!

I've still never used Google Express, but I don't really want to waste the 20% new customer discount to just save $3 or so.

These are very slow.. they are USB 3 ports but nowhere near USB 3 speeds. A coworker has this and to transfer the same file his was going about 22MB/s and my SanDisk Extreme did over 200MB/s.

Is your co worker using a USB 2.0 port or 3.0?

This is likely the case.

As per ipwn's question, the master device, ie computer, tv, game console, media player...whatever, is limited to the speed of the available onboard port.

Quote how-to geek: "The USB 2.0 standard offers a theoretical maximum signaling rate of 480 megabits per second, while USB 3.0 defines a maximum rate of 5 gigabits per second."

As you can see hardware makes a difference.

So just because it's a usb 3.0 drive doesn't mean it will always operate at those speeds. Its dependant also on the device's port speed.

Also note that many computers, especially those first introduced with usb 3.0, have usb 2.0 AND 3.0 ports. You'll need to check in system settings or you should be able to look directly at the port itself and see, if it is black then it's usb 2.0. If it's blue then it's usb 3.0

It makes no difference for 99.9% of flash drives since very few can saturate the transfer limit of USB 3.0 so whether its 3.0, 3.1 gen1, gen2, etc., doesn't matter except for nicer quality external SSD's. Most budget USB 3.X flash drives can only write at 20-100 MB/sec and many of the budget ones including this one has decent read speeds with bad write speeds. If you're not regularly doing large transfers it's not a big deal to get a handful of these to use as disposable temporary storage, but for long-term use of carrying around larger files it is much better and safer now to have an external SSD. They've dropped enough in price ($50 for 250GB, $80 for 500GB when on sale) that for a main portable storage drive pretty much anyone who can afford it should get an SSD and use flash drives just to install windows, give files to friends and not care about the device, etc.

You could always take some classes on business and marketing. A business's goal is to make profits and promotions, like this, are a tool used to increase business and profits. Do you think Alphabet Inc. should create a charity, to give out free or discounted USB Flash drives for the poor and/or cheap people? Nobody is forcing you to give them your money or data.
