I think it's the AMD inside that's causing these issues
Nah, Ryzen has a good reputation. I'd sooner blame HP for their track record of overheating problems Smilie

I have this laptop. It used to run very hot and fan was loud, can confirm after bios update it has been fixed it now runs fast and quietly. fan will kick on occasionally but the problem was fixed.
With the BIOS and firmware update, did it solve the wifi issue?

What bios do you have ? I just bought it, I'm very tech savvy, I hope I can resolve any issues.

What? Lol Intel is notorious for running hot compared to AMD. Which is why so many people literally tear apart to cpu to delid them and cool them better. AMD has never been known to have a heating issue. (not to say it can't happen, it's just not a known problem within their company like it is with Intel)
from my experience the opposite

I've had this for a day now.
No wifi issues. No overheating. I had mistakenly added in chrome h264ify so i have disabled it.
Battery lasts. Haven't needed to charge it since yesterday.

My main issue is backlight bleed. It's horrible on a black background. But you can return it to bestbuy if that is a problem. My issue is going to be returning it to HP by mail. Free of charge but still a hassle.

The SSD that comes with it is the 128gb SSD M.2 with speeds of 580MB max. So, when people complain as to why their mvne drive is slow that it's so hot it's getting throttled, it is not. You do not have an mvne drive. You have an M.2 sata drive instead.

I had 68gb usable space. After compressing the OS, uninstalling all HP crap files but HP wifi software, everything is running great and went to 80GB usable space.

The fan will kick in if you start watching 1080p movies. Keep it on 720p and you won't hear the fans. Haven't installed programs yet except for chrome since it's going back. Haven't opened the laptop or installed any parts. But it seems to support MVNE ssd and ram isn't soldered in.
What are you talking about? It is clearly stated that SSD on it js PCIe not Sata. It is also confirmed that RAM is soldered and non-upgradable.

Yes, you can charge it via the usb c port if you have your own charger/cable. The included charger is a for the traditional dedicated charging port.

It's a pCIE. Nvme fits. Put it inside and tell us how the heat is.

I bought this laptop about two months ago during their president day sale and the build quality is awesome but the wifi adapter is HORRIBLE! Stay away ... no matter what you do if your adapter cuts signal it will not work unless you RMA it. I returned 2 in a week .... It was the 2700 model 256gb but they both have the same issues.

thanks for the info. are you sure about the ram not being soldered in? multiple reviewers say that it is soldered. also, what's the ram config? is it 2x4gb or 1x8 gb w/ an open slot? thanks!

How does it compare to this HP Pavillion x360, which I just purchased at Costco a few weeks ago when it was on the coupon book for $549.99? I understand it doesn't have a SSD, but it has 1 TB, plus I have a 512 GB SSD I could install as the boot disk and use the 1TB as a secondary (is that possible in this laptop?)

Which one is has better performance specs?

Also, hearing that the Envy has wifi issues. Does the Pavillion x360 have these issues too?

It's really funny how this changes. Before Ryzen, AMD was notoriously hot. And before that, Intel was the heat king in 2007ish. They keep each other competitive

Since this laptop has a few reported problems with fan and WiFi I assume it is not safe to buy these open box units as they are most probably the ones with issues.
To me, open box is really the deal. I guess I will order it and return if there is any problem.
