Are you guys just f(_)cking with people with the horrible advice in this thread?

If you are having to add oil to your engine between oil changes, it is most likely your valve seals that are leaking. They are not made of rubber. No oil additive in the world will return them back to new condition. Increasing oil weight might reduce the amount of oil that seeps past them but now you are increasing your oil pressure throughout the rest of the motor and the heavier oil will reduce your fuel mileage. Either replace the valve seals (which will cost a couple of grand or a full day or two of your time) or just keeping adding a quart of oil between oil changes and use a high quality gas that will minimize the sludge buildup on your valves.

If you run conventional oil and have high mileage, don't bother swapping to synthetic. Your engine is already worn down. The synthetic won't do anything for you except cause smoking and lighten your pocket book. Synthetic oil doesn't necessarily cause you motor to last longer. You can get long life on conventional oil. Synthetic should be ran in your motor from the beginning. What you are trying to accomplish by using it is longer oil change intervals and reduce wear that causes compression loss and oil usage. If you decide to use conventional through your engines life what you will experience is a faster reduction in engine power and fuel mileage and greater oil consumption. You can still easily get over 300k miles out of a motor on conventional. If you are already at 200k miles there is absolutely no point in switching.

Pro tip: Don't take car advice from anonymous posters on an internet deal site.

And I would never switch from conventional oil to synthetic without disabling the Johnson Rod, anyway.

FYI. Castrol edge is high quality line of motor oil. Even rated higher than Mobil 1 synthetic

Look into high mileage and see if you think it's a good idea.

Personally I won't ever use it. But I'm sure there are people who would.
I wouldn't use it in engine which has no leak even with 200k... But if it's leaking it has positives if you want to use synthetic and not standard.

Most oil is sold in 5 qt jugs, not gallons. Also, Walmart current price is $25.47.

Picked some up. I just put seafoam into my crankcase and need to do an oil change in a few days after 100 miles. Perfect timing. Ty op.

Been using traditional oil in my 98 Nissan and at 220k miles changed to semi and at 225 I will switch to fully. Friend said to use heavier oil. My car takes 5/30 so should up it to 10/30. Car burns 500ml every 3k miles.

You would go to 10w-40 if you wanted thicker oil
