**edit - deal dead. Back to inflated price. **
Tamron has dropped the E-mount Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 back to the MSRP on Amazon.com. Includes the extensive limited warranty. We haven't seen this price since January.

This lens has been widely acclaimed as the "affordable" alternative to Sony lenses around that range. If you're on a Sony and need a bit more range at the nice low f/2.8 aperture, definitely recommend you check this out.

Tax isnt the same everywhere. 865 for me. I can always cancel if I decide not to get it. All reports are that it is great.

I would rather get the announced 17-28, but it aint out yet.

WHAT? theyve lowered it back to MSRP?

these assholes. and of course they would.

stupid tamron raised their lens price after seeing how well it sold and sony also saw that and lowered their 24105.
with smaller difference in price of course ppl would give it another thought.

This lens is worth every penny. It used to be $799 MSRP and has been constantly sold out since it was released. Tamron increased the MSRP 10% and it's still been OOS in many places as can be seen by the fact that even this is a back-order.

Those of you trying to save on tax, see if you can price match to B&H or Adorama. They both charge (or don't charge) tax to some different states. Do a quick search on which would be better for you.

I was looking at the reviews and this lens has so funky bokeh depending on the zoom range.

Great lens. I would still recommend native Sony 24-105 F4. Just as sharp as this Tamron with much better range and faster AF. Yes, Tamron is F2.8, but on modern mirrorless cameras 1 stop does not mean much. I got my 24-105 in excellent condition on eBay for $900 ($1000 - 10% coupon)..

Totally agreed. I really dislike the bokeh on this lens. I am looking to get the Sony 24-105. I shoot at 24mm a lot too, so there is another reason. Costs 50% more than the Tamron though!

75mm@F2.8 gives you decent background separation though. That was one of the biggest reasons for getting this lens as it can zoom from landscape to a decent portrait lens.

Also, this lens has very short minimum focus distance, which can let you shoot almost-macro shots.

Also, while F4 vs F2.8 isn't a bid deal if there is enough light, it can make a huge difference in low light indoor shooting, where even F2.8 is usually not enough. without F2.8, you may be forced to switch to a bright prime. The Tamron can save you a lens switch in most situations.

So if you are looking for an outdoor/daylight lens for travel or other general uses, the 24-105 may be a better option due to its focal length range advantage, but it is hard to beat the Tamron for indoor or low light use.

Plus, the Tamron is $400 cheaper!
