EOL means end of life
R7 is a new unit by Uniden that is basically an upgraded R3 with slightly better range and arrows like the valentine 1. It's also $600.

Kuni was the project leader at Uniden handling their radar detector division. He left to go work for Radenso which is a competitor. Their units don't have near the range the Uniden R3 has, or the R7 will but they have much better blind spot detection (BSD) management so you get less false alerts.

What does this all mean? Probably nothing. The R3 is a hugely popular unit and I hope they'll keep firmware updates going on it. Even if they don't though, not much changes when it comes to radar so it's still going to be a good unit for a long time.

^^^ THIS 100% ^^^

I, too, have a radar detector (Escort 9500ix) in all of my vehicles, but I would never think of driving again without a GPS-enabled dash camera. Precisely for this reason. Police are human and make mistakes. Radar and LIDAR systems are imperfect. LEO's don't work for charity and their performance evaluations are influenced by their ticket numbers. Without even considering aggressive attitudes that the younger generation of LEO's are displaying (and their inability to de-escalate situations, or rationally discuss things on the side of the road), these facts alone MANDATE that you have an additional line of defense when accused of speeding - whether you speed or not.

In early 2007 I was stopped while driving with the flow of traffic. I was driving 68 in a 55. Yes, that is 13 MPH over the limit, but in a pack, we were all moving in unison. The deputy that stopped me accused me of doing 72 - which would be 17 over the limit. 15MPH or more above the limit is considered a major speeding offense, and carrier increased penalties and higher impact on insurance.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5se8n5XSuY

Forgive the poor quality - back then, digital dash cameras didn't exist with GPS. I had an analog camera feeding a GPS-overlay board (which was fed by an eTrex GPS hiking receiver), that went into a primitive, low-resolution recorder. Don't knock it - it worked!

When the deputy asked me "do you know how fast you were going?", I said, I don't know officer, but let me rewind my dash camera and I can tell you. Back then, the idea of a civilian having a dash camera was unheard of, and the cop (as well as his backup) was dumbfounded that anyone would NEED a camera system. When I showed him that I was doing 68 for the mile leading up to the stop, he said "Well, I trust my laser gun". He wrote the ticket for 72. I told him I would see him in court.

Before my court date (3 months later), I recorded several road-side radar speed limit signs with the GPS dash camera. The two signs matched precisely to my GPS imprinted speed on the dash camera. I took those videos, along with the one from the stop to court. The judge initially seemed hesitant to distrust the deputy. The cop said "Well, judge, you hear about laser-guided bombs, but not GPS-guided bombs - that tells me what is more accurate."

Fortunately, with a friend of the family who was a cop in that county, I knew exactly what type of laser gun the county was using (the LTI 20/20). I managed to score a manual with specs on that gun. "Velocity accuracy: +/- 1.0 MPH". The manual from my GPS unit "Velocity accuracy: +/- 0.1 MPH". I showed both to the judge, and told him either his gun is off by 4MPH, or my GPS and both radar signs in the videos were all off by exactly 4MPH. The judge ruled in my favor and reduced the ticket to 68.

Point is, when people see cops aiming a radar/LIDAR gun at them, the don't glance at the speed-o. They immediately slow down and THEN look at their speed. So, truthfully, most drivers really don't KNOW how fast they were going - and even if they did, their word against a cop won't stand up in court.

Having an unbiased witness in the car that records everything from start to stop, with real-time accurate GPS speed provides an iron-clad defense against bogus accusations.

If you are serious about defending against radar use, make sure you also defend against INACCURATE radar/LIDAR results. Cops don't expect people to be able to prove their actual speed.

good price. I'm going to give this a shot again. First one I bought was likely a bad unit. Constantly false alarming and wouldn't pick up Ka band. Fingers crossed on this one

Great price, unfortunately, there's sales tax in my state. I hope this detector isn't EOL due to the R7 being released and Kuni going from Uniden to Radenso. It's great for the time being, so if anyone needs one, go for it!

I use the same address but different names, email addresses and credit cards. Checkout as guest or set up 2 accounts

Red Flag to have both on the same Credit Card.

I've been out of the radar game for a while but I'm getting something real fast again so I'm looking. Smilie Is this the best bang for the buck out there right now? Compared to bell, escort valentine and all that?
