These yi cameras used to work well for me However, now there are no motion detect notification since 4 months. You open the app, and only then it floods your notification bar with alerts. Defeats the purpose. Stuck with '5 of them. Several compliants to manufacturer but no respite

That's hilarious if true.
Watch the video on Amazon. Someone posted it on their review. They say "HEY BABY!" angrily.

These cameras are great and despite the security concerns they've worked flawlessly since I bought them and use them as outdoor cameras. Have a total of 5 now.

The wyze pan also gives your 12 sec of cloud storage every 5 min after motion trigger. Do you just have to rely on the SD card once it triggers motion?

I have some issues with Wyze Pan where it isn't sending me alerts when in pan scan mode. It follows the subject but doesn't send alerts. But in detection mode(stationary) it doesn't auto pan to follow subjects. If the Yi can follow and send alerts, I'm down.
I have yi cameras and have issues with alerts on my phone. Sometime I have to open the app then get a backlog of alerts

I've had several of these for about 6 months.

My only complaint is that you have to re-enter your password into the app about once ever 3 weeks. And due to the security concerns, my password to these cameras is unique and long, so it is a hassle to look it up and type it in at random times.

How does the cam and app stack up with something like Nest?
The app doesn't require a subscription, but also doesn't provide storage for your video. I think it can store to Google drive, etc.

If you're worried about security, I suggest installing TinyCam on an old Android phone and using that to relay the camera feed to the web rather than exposing the camera itself to the outside. That way the security is handled in the TinyCam app instead of a poorly supported/patched camera.
Looks like these cameras are not supported by TinyCam - Supported Cameras [tinycammonitor.com]

But... I did find out that they have a version of the app that runs on your home computer (PC / Mac ) and works great - https://www.yitechnology.com/yi-home-pc-app

I don't have the ptz camera but have 3 of the stationary cameras and use the Yi Home app. The first 2 cameras are great so I ordered a third. I can not get the custom motion detection area menu to show up even after emailing support on the third camera. It just gives me false positives all the time because it's detecting the motion on the entire field of view. I had to disable motion detection on my third camera. Since it's a different camera but same brand and app, figured I'd leave a comment in case it helps.

You do NOT need anything over 1080p for a freaking room. We have a very large livingroom, absolutely above average. Both during the day and night these 1080p cameras can see everything perfectly fine.

This is one area where you really are stuck with Chinese or Chinese if your camera must rotate, if it doesn't then there are American brands like Wyze on Amazon that're popular sellers, 1080p with the HUGE benefit of it not being on THEIR cloud service or nothing at all. Wyze will even work with BlueIris!
