GameStop in CA doing +50% credit for all game trade ins

+20 Deal Score

Hey guys, I didn't see this on the board so I figured I'd let you all know. Currently Gamestop is doing Cash same as Credit for everywhere in the US EXCEPT CA. (PS4 500gb trade in for $200 cash is pretty good!) But since they aren't doing Cash same as Credit in CA, they have instead offered +50% on all game trade ins. This isn't advertised on their website, I went in person and they told me. Hope this helps some of you out!

*Not sure why the TDs, thought this might help some people out.

Yeah it's not like they are going to sell it for $20. Probably sell for $1.99 or $2.99.
They're selling it for $4.99. So that means they are charging 700% of what they are paying for it.

Oddly enough, the ps3 version is listed for $24.99, too. Same game, worse evrsion, 5 times the price.

Damn they buy stuff they shouldn't even be buying because it doesn't sell for what they ask. I worked there. They literally throw away product that doesn't sell instead of having some type of liquidation company purchase it.

I figure someone would pay $5 even for an old version of a sports game, if they are realllllly low on funds. but who knows... I guess that ps3 one is so much higher due to being one of the last (or the last?) on that console, but I highly doubt anyone will pay $25 for that. lol.

Not really. BF5 trade in went from $20 to $17. So with the 50% it's $24 so it's still better than the $20. Quit making up stuff. It's part of the reason GameSlop is in trouble. False assumptions and misinformation being spread by customers.
Yes really. God of War went from $18 to $12. After the 50% it's what it was worth before without the 50%. Detroit went from $15 to $8. After the 50% it's worth even less than it was before without the 50%.

Shill much?

No I'm not a shill but have read about things that just didn't go on at the store I worked at, like the selling of opened games when it wasn't the display copy and over exageration of poor trade in values You said they nuked the values so much that it made this promotion a wash. That's not true in my case. Battlefield V went from $20 to $17 plus an extra 50% makes that $24 plus any value from pro or elite membership.

So you took your one isolated case and used that to conclude I was making it up. It's true in plenty of cases. As I showed. You'd think you would have checked before making false accusations.

A gamestop employee making false claims favorable to gamestop. I'll leave it up to people to decide for themselves if that's shilling.

Also lol at them only offering 75 cents trade in for mlb the show '16. I get that people usually want the latest versions, but 75 cents?

As someone who only plays sports games, even if I was low on funds, I'd always want the latest installment unless there was a specific reason to grab an older title (or stay with an older title). The best time to offload a sport game is months before the next installment. $0.75 seems about right for MLB 16.

Sports gamers do like to go online to compete and having the latest works best. I personally don't; I'm an offline gamer.

Having the most up to date player roster is also an incentive to shy away from any older sports title. The studios themselves have likely abandoned all past titles (no more roster updates); sometimes community creators will have updated roster even faster than the studios, and it's highly unlikely anyone would put in the work to fiddle with a sports title that's 3 years old (MLB16) when MLB19 is available.

On the other hand, you might get a bit more for MLB18 (official studio roster updates may still be available, and will certainly be available from community creators). Some sports gamer will buy a title every two years.

I still have MLB16 because I haven't seen the necessary improvements implemented for MLB19. Yes, yearly sports game may look the same but there are definitely subtle improvements noticeable to gamers that care about the genre.

On the flip side, I don't care about first person shooters; but if my only option was to grab one, I'll grab any cheap older title and be perfectly fine because they're pretty much all the same to me.

what sucks is I have had multiple games in the mlb the show series where I ended up not playing them because I never found the time, somehow, and yet I didn't get smart and sell them back before they lost value.

An unfortunate thing with sports game. Loses its value big time.

After finding about about Pro Yakyuu Spirits (Japanese baseball game; I'll do my best to navigate the menu with google's app translator), I haven't given much thought to MLB the Show. The animations and player demeanor in the Show is extremely shoddy (two massive eye sores in the Show are terrible pitching and throwing animations, etc.)

Pro Yakyuu Spirits PS4 2019 (release date possibly July 2019) - better animatios, more player control than the show. $90 plus dollars; can't wait. The last iteration was 2015 Ps3; fans of the series thought this franchise was canned.

I've heard about it and that people like it, but I just can't get into a game without the mlb players. As far as gameplay goes, I had more fun with baseball games from the 80s, 90s, early 00s than recent ones. Frown

Thanks OP. Between B2G1 free and 50% trade deals, pretty much only time I go in Gamestop. I do enjoy the Game Informer magazine though.
