Does this work with a Alexa dot alone?
You need a zigbee hub, amazon echo plus or smart things hub. I have urlhasbeenblocked for the interior and bought these when they were on sale for $3.89 thinking that the echo show had a built in hub. I want to use them in the garage so I just bought a single light with the gateway(hub) on Amazon for $8.99. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...EQV4&psc=1

ordered from walmart to try with vera plus
this way return is free-ish (minus my lost time in going to walmart)

Reviews are kind of all over the place for these on different seller sites. At this price I might take a shot at Walmart and easy returns (well depending on who's working that day) if I don't like them.

edit: I see a 20% restocking fee in the return policy to walmart from VM Express. Anybody know if they actually enforce that?

Unless something's changed recently, you can't return 3rd party seller products back to a physical Walmart store. You will need to work directly with the seller to organize your return, just like eBay. Walmart only acts as the mediator between seller and consumer for a percentage. They don't even have the item in their system. In fact, i'd probably say eBay is easier to deal with returns in situations like these.

Hope you just end up enjoying the product and not having to return at all.

I'm interested in these but I currently own Lifx bulbs. I'm sure they aren't as fully featured as Lifx, but i'm wondering if the savings is worth it compared to spending more for bulbs that can be integrated with my HomeKit system as opposed to using a separate app just for two lights.

I doubt that since it's zigbee protocol. You would need a smart home hub like the echo plus or Samsung smart things
Smart things does not automatically support groups, you might want to use a sylvania hub if you don't want to write automation for smart things.

That's not a hub, despite the name.

I got some of those a19 white bulbs from two weeks ago. They are nice light, but they give off high pitched coil whine. All three of them (that was the limit). Does anybody know if that is a thing with sylvania wifi bulbs?
