Noobie question: worth it to pull the trigger at this price? Panel qualities from a noobie perspective?

I have it for past 2 years. Good TV for the price, but s405 is a 2 year old model. It doesn't have local dimming and doesn't get very bright. If you're looking for gaming on PS4, I'd say this TV is better than the Samsung 6300 I bought 2 years ago. The Samsung is better though for movies, etc.

This has been our main TV for about 18 months. The remote is junk (a modified tiny Roku remote; not ergonomic and easy to lose) and the screen is a little "splotchy" with bright colors, especially white. I might buy another TCL at some point, but I'm not totally sold on them yet. Maybe their higher end line will sway me...

I have this TV which i got from Costco a year ago for ~$340. IMO, at this price (even the price i paid) it is worth. It is not bright enough if there is lot of light in the room. Remote as said by ash78, is a junk. I don't play any 4k content, it is for streaming, mostly for kids.

Have this TV too. It gets a lot of love for being one of the first cheap 4K TVs but honestly, the picture quality is real bad on it. So dim and muted colors. I can't think of anything remarkable about it anymore.

How does this compare to the Best Buy insignia from a few days ago? I am wondering if I should cancel band buy the TCL.

Surprised people are complaining about this set. Excellent value, I have the 65 and use it daily with PS4. Sure the remote is a bit finicky and needs to be pointed right at it to work but I have no regrets. Built in Roku is a bonus.

i have the S401 (pretty much the same thing), and as others mentioned, i don't recommend in a room where you're getting a lot of sunlight. it is however a great budget tv for basements or nighttime watching.

i have it in my living room opposite a window where it gets a lot of sunlight. even with my blinds down, if the sun is bright enough (not even hitting it directly), it still makes it difficult to watch. i'll be spending a little more next time for a living room tv. but because i don't watch a lot of tv during the day, i can live with it. this issue probably isn't unique to this tv, but something to keep in mind.

i also have to crank the brightness almost all the way up to watch dark shows (stranger things, how to get away with murder, etc.). otherwise everything comes out too dark.

roku is great, though. the remote is simple and does sometimes have issues registering clicks, but doesn't bother me too much.

I have had a TCL since September 2017. Though it is not the same model, it apparently is manufactured by the same people who manufacture Samsung.

There are a couple of disadvantages of this product:
  • WiFi can be breaking up (I had those issues where my TV disconnected from WiFI and would not connect back again. I did some research and it appears that many users experience similar issues)
  • Remote can be difficult to operate for an inexperienced user (people who visit me cannot really operate the remote). I have used this TV for long enough that I know where to point the remote to make a desired action
  • The light can be reflected on the screen - ensure that it's not reflecting daylight from the window or a lamp (though this issue applies to most TV boxes these days...)
In my opinion, this is a very good deal for TV. I always appreciated the following:
  • Awesome resolution
  • Beautiful picture
  • High functionality
  • Easy to operate

Again, I cannot guarantee that this specific unit is great or flawless, but I have had a good experience with TCL.

Good price on this one I've been watching for a bit. Anyone know what shipping time looks like from Rakuten?

This is a great low end smart TV. I have one in my bedroom. I will eventually upgrade to a 617 Vizio some day.

I have a Nvidia Shield that I don't use at all because the built in Roku is the same thing and works better. Ill be selling my shield soon.

I use.a Vizio P65 in my home theater.

I was wondering the same thing. Is the extra $50 worth it, over the Insignia for $249?
