It's the idea of taking external style drives which are really usually just SATA drives with a USB connection converter, opening them with tools and taking the internal SATA drive out and putting it into an existing system via an internal SATA connection - whether it's a desktop or NAS.

SOMETIMES, you can find drives that are more expensive than just buying a bare internal drive from the same company.

The term "shucking" is a nod to how people consume oysters. That term is what describes the act of opening the shells to get to the meat inside.

How does this compare to the $130 8tb easystore deal? The easystore usually has better quality drive than elements, right?

No it's the same thing, easystore is just the best buy version so they don't have to price match people

Does anyone know if the drives in these are the same as those in the 10TB WD My Book deal from B&H?

Looking for 4 drives of the same model for a NAS and already have 2 on order from the B&H deal.

They will be a WD/HGST Helioseal 10TB 256mb cache drive, but not sure if the model numbers will be the same. My mybook was a WD100EZAZ

I got some of the drives when they were 140 but I'm waiting for them to ship... now I question if I should pay the extra for instant gratification...

I have been watching this drive's price bounce between $140 and $300 over the last few months.

I purchased for $180 in Nov 2018. Still working great!
