I was hesitant because of the paywall, and lack of support for Alexa.

After buying one and installing it I found that people have posted unofficial apis and Alexa skills. It was fairly easy to set up my own Alexa skill, it works flawlessly. That being said I almost never use the garage door via Alexa and just use the free app for notifications, schedules, and checking the status.

For $50 it's completely worth it imo.
For checking the status and notifications, do we need to pay?

Does the MyQ app work with Apple CarPlay?
Just checked my phone because that's a great idea for those without homelink, but unfortunately no.

Tempting, the garage door opener that came with my home has wifi built in (chamberlain MyQ) but the 3rd bay just has a cheap garage door opener I got on craigslist. Would be nice to know when it gets opened / closed.

No, it's free with the app. You only pay it you want to use official Google or IFTTT skills.

Also available at Walmart. Great deal, an additional sensor alone retails for $40. Keep in mind, no Alexa support and IFTTT requires a paid membership.
I hate that. I along with MyQ. I use a cheap switch that adds Alexa functionality to my garage (eWeLink).

Edit: To clarify, with the app, without paying, you can set notifications for things like "the garage has been open for x min", "the garage was opened", "the garage was closed". I also have a schedule where if the garage was left open after 1030 pm, automatically close it. It's nice that it beeps and flashes for 5 seconds when being closed from the app so that kids have a warning if they are bears by.
Can you provide some specifics on how you did all this? Alexa support is what I want, as well as alerts if its open after X:XXPM etc

I think I paid around the same price for mine about 2 years ago. Love the updated GUI of the app on iOS. I use with my Apple Watch also.

I'm torn on these fees. I understand that IoT devices require security updates but these companies DO NOT specify that your fee is going to guarantee updates for a certain amount of time, etc. Most products get 2 years of updates FROM THE TIME OF PRODUCT RELEASE ON THE MARKET. At that point, are we still paying for a subscription with no firmware or security updates? What if this is being bought on clearance at the end of life of the product? This needs to be addressed more clearly.

I have a Chamberlain HD420EV. Is this the device I need? It has MyQ marked on the side of the unit but was always unsure which device is needed to get remote access.

Edit: The MyQ site says this hub unit, the Chamberlain site says a MyQ Home Bridge...

Don't pay this company for a free service
What service do you have to pay for? I have this and use it to open and close garage doors. I guess I don't use IFTTT, is that why I'm not paying for anything?

A single hub can only handle 2 garage doors?

I have 3 garage doors. Looks like I'd need 2 hubs? That's annoying.

Get a Nexx Garage instead IMO. You won't have to pay for a membership in order to use your garage door. I have the Nexx, and it's been real decent.

It's a great product. Alerts me everytime my garage opens or closes, I can open and close it while I'm at work, and I have a Blink camera setup in the garage so I can watch it open or close.
