They should just hand these out for free at this point.

I think the Google versus Alexa question is always dependent on your personal preferences and also what you are wanting to integrate.
I have Google Minis and Alexa Dots. I find Alexa hardly works for my things. I have Smarthings and that's where Alexa has been failing me. Google seems to be a bit more intuitive with my commands. TBH, I think it's the smartthings setup of it all; when Alexa is connected directly to the Philips Hue hub and urlhasbeenblocked Element hubs, the commands seem to always work

These suck as white noise machines
If using them at night for sleep, try the command "play Rain Sounds" ... mini responds with "here's the sound of rain" and loops all night.

The only thing dumber than alexa is home pod
Perhaps because they're not the same things Big Grin Liken it to a radio vs a stereo.

The HomePod is an awesome home stereo speaker that can preform basic bot commands whereas Alexa and Google are awesome bots that have basic music sound.

Agreed. Another factor may be accent and tone. I find myself yelling at Google for it to hear me and with Alexa I can speak in my normal tone, or even whisper! At times I have trouble with talk to text but Alexa doesn't seem to misunderstand me as much as google does.

But... google doesn't seem to "break" as often. Recently it appeared they added the ability to add time to an alarm on Alexa but if I did it when the alarm goes off (like I do with Google "add 5 more minutes" or "pause" which gives 10min more) Alexa would get stuck playing the alarm and wouldn't stop until it was unplugged and set up again. After 3x I gave up on them fixing it right away and just stick with google on timers I may need to add time to like work break reminders (don't always get to take them on time)

I don't like one more than the other because they each do some things well. I prefer music on Alexa because I have Prime Music and music sounds better on it than mini, but I still play music on mini if I'm tinkering with something and just want some chill music... on low volume it's not bad. But if I'm absent-mindedly givnig a command I default to mini because i have more of them... regret not picking up more of the Echos for $5 or free!

hmm another thing on the Echo: maybe it's a difference in the 1st/2nd gen and the 3rd gen (which is what I have)

Hate these things. Have them in my classroom and they are lightyears behind Alexa in terms of usability and understanding. Changing my classroom to Echo Dots next year and giving my Minis to a fellow teacher.
I've seen the exact opposite. With Alexa, you had to use some exact predefined phrases for it to understand you. With Google, I just had to vaguely say what I wanted.

Not only that, but there have been times when I barely knew what I wanted and it understood me perfectly.

For me google home has been far far better understanding what I speak and giving back meaningful answers. Also you can play music off YouTube(which I prefer). Google can answer even follow-up questions unlike Alexa.

If you tell it to "start sleep sounds" it will give you a list of available sleep sounds. I'm partial to "mountain".

That's a nice one as well! I'm partial to water (rain, ocean, babbling brook)
