Samsung Appliances are garbage, I would stay away. They will break quickly and impossible to fix.

I have no personal way to vouch for this statement, but I did just do a bunch of research on washers/dryers, and the anti-Samsung sentiment was shared by Consumer Reports and several big box and local store clerks. LG, Maytag, and one other brand I'm forgetting - Whirlpool, maybe? - seem to generally be considered the most reliable.

From what i remember in the old thread, the DV5500 was energy star certified. Here are a few of the posts that talked about it in that thread. https://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php?showposts=1&threadid=12992407&q=DV5500

I think one of the biggest issues with Samsung dryers is that they are especially susceptible to lint build up. All dryers can be negatively affected over time if the lint builds up in the vent line, but something about the placement of the heating element or something makes Samsungs fail quicker. I think as long as you keep the dryer vent line cleaned regularly, you should be ok with this brand. However, their warranty support is a pain , so if it does break beware.

With that said, I bought the 5300 and am so far very happy with it. It performs well, runs quiet and most importantly, dries my clothing!

My Samsung had a failure of the heating element. It is the same part used in a lot of other machines.

Cost $15 to replace the heating element and temp sensor. I did it myself following a YouTube video and it took 20 min.

For dryers I would really recommend just keeping it simple. Modern washers can over energy savings over old school versions, but the dryers are really the same except the simple ones area easy and cheap to fix.
