Nothing screams "gullible American tourist!" in foreign countries more than this thing.
Yeah, nobody should actually be in a large foreign city with anything like this. Seriously, get the small thin strap pouches (either over shoulder or around waist) that go inside your clothes, or even in your underwear (ick!) and only are intended to hold a few things (passport, credit card, a few Euros). When I was on a subway in Rome, I was very glad to know that was where my stuff was. You're bumping into a lot of people. Also when I was younger and stupider, somehow in a small uncrowded restaurant in Paris, I "lost" my wallet. Never did find it, pretty sure someone figured out how to get it from me while I was distracted. (not in a fanny pack, though). Anyway after that I was much more careful in foreign cities, or large US cities for that matter.

I put a one time use, spare parachute reserve inside of my fanny pack, in case I have to bail out of a small plane paraglider, or whatever.
It's perfect for my 150 lb frame, allowing me to slow down from a terminal velocity of 120mph, to around 30, when I hit the ground. Sure I'll have a broken foot or leg, bit at least I'll be alive....unless it's over the middle of the ocean... In that case, I guess I better start putting inflating arm rings in my pocket or something.

I always assume that there is a gun that someone is concealed carrying inside these when I see them out in the wild. I wonder if I'm wrong or right more times than not.

My best friend still rocks these. I would pick up a few for him since it's his birthday, but I cannot find any info on whether these are water resistant. I guess I can also buy him a water repellant spray to coat it with.

that's a horrible way to conceal a gun so i'd bet you're mostly wrong on this one

I love how people are wearing this over the shoulder calling them slings in a desperate attempt to get people to believe they are not fanny packs. Saw a kid a few months ago at the mall doing that and I walked by him and said "nice fanny pack", he just turned beet red, that was so worth it. Smilie

I was pick-pocketed twice in France... or at least attempted. They are very brazen there. Both times was the same deal. Someone would hear me speak and say "Oh, are you American?" and then go to shake my hand. But they didn't reach out with their right hand. Instead they try to shake with their left hand which throws you off a little. They then take your left hand and tug you in towards them and with their right hand they reach into your front pocket and grab whatever is in there. The first time this happened, the guy got nothing but receipts out of my pocket and I chased him for a few blocks but he was too fast for me. The second time, I saw it coming. I was with a group of friends so they are willing to get into a confrontation. The kid trying to do it looked real nervous and I saw him looking behind me at a group of guys standing there. I never shook his hand. If I did and he tried it I knew we would be in for a fight. This was when I as in the military and my ship pulled into port there. A lot of guys got pick-pocketed. One guy was using a pay phone (yep, they had them and it wasn't that long ago) when a kid reached in and grabbed his wallet. Another sailor saw it happened and chased the kid down, grabbed him and carried him back to the phone booth making him give the wallet back. The guy on the phone didn't even know he was pick-pocketed.

This is a nice pack but don't trust Eddie Bauer to provide an ounce of customer service if you ever have issues with your order or items/warranty, this company is the worst I have dealt with.

Is that a fanny pack? I used to have one of those in 1990-never.
