Dang the R3 was just 275 on Rakuten, I don't even use the GPS filtering on my DFR7 but $75 wouldn't break the bank and would sell quicker later on if I wanted to upgrade. Not sure if i should wait for another R3 deal.

I agree. You're already spending $200 on a good radar detector, but the extra $75 is a no brainer for the GPS feature. Especially if you plan on keeping it long term.

I have the R3. The most useful feature you will get out of the R3 over the R1 is mute points, by far. Especially if you live in a local suburban area where there's lots of stores.

R3 can also help against low speed K band falses due to being able to quiet it at lower speeds (once again, GPS).

Bottom line, If you live in a rural area, there's really no problem with the R1. But if you live or travel within city areas, NY/NJ/PA, or any other states with major towns, I'd wait for the R3 to go on sale again.

I live in the suburbs but there is a radar on the security gate for work. I actually don't mind it since it's a predictable check to make sure my detector is working. The one day it didn't go off, the power cord had been bumped loose so I was driving without protection for the first half of my trip.

Oh Damn.

Well, with the R3 and you have a Muted Point, it still shows the radar/frequency/level on the unit, but it says "mute" and doesnt sound

This is a better deal than the dfr9 for the same price?

edit: I guess it depends what you need, longer range or GPS lockout. r1 for rural and dfr9 for suburban.
