The T490s is now a dead sub-brand. No need to even get it when the memory is no longer upgradeable and you need an adapter for ethernet. May as well get an X1 Carbon at this point and save some weight.

Why are you even looking at a Thinkpad for those specs and price range? AFAIK, they don't come with i3 processors in the T series and certainly don't start at $400. Go to the Ideapad section for that.

Just FYI I'm currently in the market for a Thinkpad because my 3-year old Ideapad is repeatedly crapping out on me. About 6 months ago the casing around the bottom of the screen cracked and that cost me $150 to get replaced and repaired and now the screen itself is constantly shorting out. I'm getting rid of it and getting a Thinkpad instead. I'd rather pay more and get a laptop that's more durable and won't just crack and break all the time like the Ideapad.

T480 with 8th gen i5 with fhd display and 256 ssd is still 900+ . Wow. Better to wait till till 9th gen CPUs are used in Thinkpad to see price drop on 8th gen .

T-series still quite expensive at this price though. I gonna buy if they include 3 years onsite warranty like Dell Latitude or HP Zbook though.

Any of you laptop experts see a good deal considering the specs for under $500 here? I just want a durable laptop (which is why I wanted a Thinkpad) for a college student.
