Just checked my MA and confirmed: mine ported over, in 4k. YMMV I guess.

Definitely weird, and thanks for the screenshots. I guess it is YMMV. I had already claimed a code for the film on Vudu a while back in HD, so I couldn't straight-out buy the film on my iTunes account (it just showed "Play"). I had to gift it to myself, so I'm wondering if that's what caused the issue. I'm guessing that you didn't own the film before at all?

Here's my transaction history:

Yup I think previous ownership of the title in HD would definitely explain the results you're seeing, and can probably be considered an edge case.

This has been explained over and over again. If you gift yourself an itunes "upgrade" it will not port out in 4k just hd. If you would have bought the upgrade on vudu it would have ported out 4k everywhere. if you redeem a 4k code on moviesanywhere it will overwrite the movie to 4k across movie anywhere.

That definitely makes it trickier when iTunes won't let you buy natively in cases where you already had a code from a Blu-Ray (which I activated a LONG time ago on Vudu). Any tricks to get iTunes to let you buy something you already own? Temporarily disconnect MA or something?

no. upgrade it on vudu or you can redeem an actual 4k code on moviesanywhere. or depending on the movie and studio you can redeem an hd code on itunes that will be upgraded to 4k an push 4k license to moviesanywhere. I redeemed a furious 8 hd code on itunes that someone gave me and it upgraded my free copy from moviesanywhere. I also upgraded my 2002 spider-man vudu copy with a 4k trilogy code that I redeemed on moviesanywhere. It's stupid I know
