But having a watch band fall apart while you are out for a run or bike ride and it falling to the gravel or asphalt might not be the risk you are willing to take...

Yeah, the cheap band breaks and breaks $200 worth of glass at the same time....

That being said, I have ordered quite a few types of the cheaper bands and rotate thru them and before running/riding, I give them a good tug to break them before they break on me...

Not bad, but IMO you need 2 bands — one casual/formal and one sport. For sport, I really recommend something that wraps over the face and edges to protect the watch. This style is fine for running, but won't offer any protection. I call these "athleisure bands"
