For those who are well-versed in turntables, why does this model have a manual arm vs some cheaper ones having automatic arms? I much prefer the automatic type. Am I missing something?
The auto arms usually break and something about the weight on the arm not being good for the record. I may be wrong on these but that's what I remember and why most people who enjoy records try to avoid them. Also the ones where you can que an additional record are even worse as now the needle is not at the right angle (on some units you can adjust the height of the pivot of the tone arm)

Because they are reviewed by people without a clue. The entry level Audio Technica turntable is poorly constructed and just all around lousy.

The next model up is mediocre.
This turntable uses an Audio Technica cartridge...

There is no such thing as matching turntables with speakers

I currently have a AT LP-60, is this a large enough upgrade to replace it? I've considered replacing it for a while and plan on keeping my replacement for at least a year, and have trouble justifying some of the really expensive ones. I only have about 130 records in my collection still. Would love advice on whether to jump on this deal or what I can reasonably expect to find that is better for around $200. Thanks

Edit: do I need any new equipment for this one?

Pro-ject is a far superior Turntable. I own neither, but I've been in the Audiophile game for a long time and I've kept up with reviews from folks I trust at all price levels. My research backs this opinion in spades.

I have the Teac TN300 in gloss white that I bought back in 2015 for $399 on Amazon. I absolutely love this turntable. It's a fantastic midrange turn table. The specs are the same. SE is a special edition that comes in matte black or walnut. At this price its a no brainer. You won't regret this purchase!

See my comment above. I too had an ATLP60. I upgraded to this but paid $399 when it first came out. At this price you will not find a better table. There are some great tables out there pro-ject, u-turn but at this price you won't find one better. You won't need any new equipment.

Audiophiles, how does this compare with the Fluance turntables from a while back?

https://slickdeals.net/f/13019158-fluance-rt81-high-fidelity-vinyl-turntable-record-player-solid-wood-cabinet-amazon-209-96?page=4#commentsBox

And sorry - noob question - but I am buying this for a loved one, can you play vinyl records with this?

I am new to vinyl records. I bought a vinyl player from Sam's club. It is nothing expensive. But I have found that I love the clarity and crispness of the music. How does the table effect the quality of music? Thanks in advance.

Their cartridges are OK. Their turntables are low end.

It depends on how thick the lacquer is. You may want to use a Dremel tool to do that.
